Since I was down for most of last week, I did very little in terms of locating set-ups. After a run through of a few of my favorite scans, here are a few charts I’ve selected this week:

Cheapie Plays, CLICK HERE
Short Ideas, CLICK HERE
I’ll be focused on the cheapie plays mostly this week, as these types of environments favor cheap stock plays. Should be easy to find some momentum breakouts this week.
More later,

Uhhh…what?
PS- happy new year OA
You too, thanks.
DGLY looks ready to run
I have been in FEYE JAN 31s for a couple of weeks now. My price target is 35. Reasonable target for the timeframe?
Yes, I think so. Stalking this for re-entry myself.
You want cheap….SIFY and REDF names from long ago might have some upside here
OA – are you up for doing an After Hours today? I’m on a forced vacation day and trying to plan out my afternoon.
Yeah, I’m back to normal. Looks like there won’t be much action to break down, but we’ll meet for sure.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the move in the Utes. Holding ETR calls here.
You never really see Utes move like this. I think this sets up an incredible short, but I have no interest in fading this yet.
Happy New Year one and all.
OA what’s your target on CSIQ?
And if you held CYTK Feb 5s, would you take some profit at 7?
Thanks!
I might book CSIQ here. It’s had a good run.
And CYTK at $7, yes.
Thoughts on SCON, picked some up recently.
Fantastic weekly chart. You’ll have to be in this for a bit I assume before it goes.
Short 1,750 shares YELP @ $53.73 with margin. Market is tired and stocks that did not participate in the Santa Rally (read: weakest stocks) will drop. Let’s see where she lands.
That was the same mentality mid December when the market fell 6 of 7 days. These stocks were the only ones positive that week. Why is this time different? YELP was one of few stocks that posted a gain during that time frame.
Impostor. The JPMorgains does not sell stocks, he only buys. You will pay dearly for your treachery.
How’s this working out for you this morning?
OA, is TWTR one of your long term holds?
Yep, put a position together back in the spring.
Tepper !!!
OA – I sent you an email. Hopefully it worked.
Dear OA, I feel the fat pitch coming in TWTR and YELP. Thank you for these great ideas. Although there are some trolls here trying to spoil the party we all know that these are the best picks in the market!
I didn’t say these were the best plays. I’ve just been looking for a swing….but you know that. Thanks for the sarcasm…lol
I am confused now. Since November these have been your conviction plays above all others. I have been adding all this time. Are you abandoning them now? Are they broken? Btw, the same goes for P, I am heavy there as well.
I have calls in P that I picked up last week.
Jeff – curious why VIP vs say YNDX? I’m looking at both closely
Structure, and price action on the lower time frame.
what’s your target on VIP within what time frame?
from fundamental perspective I prefer YNDX due to better balance sheet / cash flow / biz model. but both look cheap.
I think VIP would double quicker.
Yeah it seems more likely just from looking at recent history. I think I’m leaning toward YNDX just because I really like the business model and think its more sustainable (plus the debt levels in VIP scare me) but they both look to have a good deal of upside. I won’t make it a big position though given the Russia risk.
If anyone here is an expert on currencies…what is the impact of a crashing ruble on the debt that a company like VIP has? I think its domiciled in the Netherlands but I believe a lot of their debt is denominated in rubles. If they’re in a net debt position then wouldn’t a falling ruble positively impact them?
Sold the WYNN. Probably missing out on more gains but 12% in 2 weeks on a blue chip is a nice one
IDRA from the cheapie watchlist just exploded. FDA orphan drug status.
YELP update. Sellers stepped in where expected near $54 level and the stock is now in the red as market begins to take a breather. Looking good to head to $50 over coming days as the weakest stocks continue to see selling. GL $$$$
Jeff, this looks like a great time to get back into VSLR in my 401k. Kind of an inverse h&s bottom.
I’ve been waiting for the energy sector to calm first. VSLR will be a great opportunity in 2015. They have a big book of work to do.

@OA – Some of the mortgage insurance related financials look remarkably similar your sentiment example chart. What follows ‘returning confidence’? choppy auction action or Jan enthusiasm?
Specifically, is there a current play here? For example, what do you make of the current MTG sentiment?
Excellent find. Have you looked at the profiles of these stocks as well? Specifically RDN and MTG?
Yes, they’ve been in my watch list for 3 years. After the crash, mortgage insurance (MI) was hammered. The question was who would survive, who would die. RDN is a favorite for pulling rabbits out of their hat, making deals with FNMA for example. But I think RDN’s earning call lags MTG’s so RDN moves earlier than expected near MTG’s earnings. (fyi – MTG has a higher beta.)
I took a few warm up option trades last fall. Looking for big wins. But I’m a newbie and I chickened out before the best trade. Now that I’ve watched your training ‘Options Crash Course’ videos, I’m realizing that I should be way more sensitive to volatility. Which means I have to stop buying front month options before earnings! (I’m not afraid of math).
Fundamentally these MI stocks seem out of the woods. But that also means that the Fed/housing folks are unlikely to continue help the MI industry survive. They’ve been fueled by well timed refinancing binges. That seems played out. Is it time to be the first to bet on a US housing recovery? My feeling is neutral for next quarter.
GPRO for the win…70+ today
OA, stalking an entry in JDST here. Any thoughts? Thanks
Would love to see Gold lose this gain. Miners are all over my cheap stock screens this morning. Makes me a little uneasy.
Anyone know why good up so much today??
@ra, gld broke above 115 so not a good sign for bears
Why gld not good
hey good call on the yelp FAKER!!!
