The military-industrial complex is doing just fine these days with upwards of $700b annually spent domestically on defense and another $40b in weapons sales to mostly third world future enemies — far outpacing all others — because that’s what we do.
France came in second with $15b, then the evil Russians at around $11b, followed by the dog eating Chinese at $6b.
Our top customers could all be found in the oil rich Middle East, with Qatar at $17b, Egypt $12b and Saudi Arabia at $8b.
God willing, they’ll crush all of their enemies, both domestic and abroad, with our space aged weapons.
There is cause for alarm, however. Global arms sales did drop in 2015 to just $80b, down from $89b in 2014. Third rate tyrannies only purchased $65b in human killing weapons, down from $79b, as an ISIS inspired peace sweeps the area.
The report, “Conventional Arms Transfers to Developing Nations, 2008-2015,” was prepared by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, a division of the Library of Congress, and delivered to legislators last week. The annual review is considered the most comprehensive assessment of global arms sales available in an unclassified form. The report adjusts for inflation, so the sales totals are comparable year to year.
Constraints on the expansion of foreign weapons sales are “due, in part, to the weakened state of the global economy,” wrote Catherine A. Theohary, a national security policy specialist at the Congressional Research Service and author of the study.
Among arms manufacturers that also are NATO allies, Germany has found success in marketing naval systems to the developing world, while Britain has done the same with warplanes, according to the report.
The most significant overseas weapons sales for the United States last year included new agreements with Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar and South Korea.
Over all, the largest buyers of weapons in the developing world in 2015 were Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Pakistan, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq.
In the year’s to come, there will be plenty of wars to be waged and fought. Some good old fashioned US military equipment will ensure a successful outcome.
If used correctly, you too can takeover and control vast swaths of oil rich lands — just like ISIS — some of our preferred clientele.
