Summer Malaise is Real at House Fly

Not much going on this summer. I’ve got a house and resort accommodations for Asheville later on this summer, with really not much else to do thanks to the fucking travel ban. My sole desire now is to acquire an E bike; but I can’t justify buying some fucking bike for $3k that doesn’t really take me anywhere.

Where will I go?

Nowhere.

But gone are the days of toiling up steep hills with a bike. I’ll be motoring my way soon, once I can officially request this gift for XMAS 2020.

After the kids are all off to college, in about two years, I’m moving the fuck out of this batshit country. Gonna travel around and see different things before I decide where to stay. You absolute fuckheads are forced to stay for your diversity trained jobs in fuckmerica. I am independently wealthy and do not need to punch clocks.

America’s birthday is over and tomorrow is a trading day to behold. Lots of fuckery happening, yet futures are up another 100. Nothing is able to stop it and it’s quite remarkable.

I’m back to drinking again, after 6 months of abstinence — but I hate it. Not having booze all those months made me feel better and cleaner. I think I’ll give it up altogether, save special occasions.

Life so far in NC has been uneventful. I spend most my days going on walks, cooking, writing and trading, followed by movie nights with fam. Not much to do in this COVID-19, post modernism riotous world.

It’s a slow dripping black strapped molasses existence these days.

Cheers.

Thank you for publishing your thoughts throughout the years. Don’t get too caught up in the news of the day, I know you’re knee deep in the trash on twitter but try not let it affect your view on the overall mentality of the country. There were some violent periods in American political history but we remain and always will. The system built hundreds of years ago by men smarter than ourselves has proven adaptable throughout time and will continue long after we are dead.

Asheville’s a fun town. Some good restaurants (not that you can go to them), the Smokies nearby with great hiking and rafting, good air.

A shame you’re only drinking on special occasions: the Broad has fantastic water and there are so many great craft breweries.

Nowhere is the place to go this year. We planned to spend August in Italy, Switzerland and Austria and will hole up in Brownsville instead with weekend trips to East New York.

Give Historical Downtown Savannah a try. We have been there about 10-12 times over the years and just came back a few days ago. Stayed at an AirBNB (or whatever it is called) and the place was pretty empty compared to previous visits. The cottage said they followed CDC cleaning protocols but we brought our own sheets, pillows, towels, eating supplies, etc. We sprayed the furniture (plus wiped everything down) with some anti microbial stuff and by the time we were done it smelled like the Mayo Clinic.
Lots of great places to eat (low country boils, shrimp and grits, etc. ) although we did take out to avoid people.
Spent part of my time going from garage to garage using their free EV chargers because they had three hour limits.
Charleston is nice too (closer for you) but I think it has too many chain stores in Historical area. But, it has good eats too.
While in Asheville, head to Hendersonville. Very cute downtown.

P.S.You think as empty nesters you have to talk to your wife wait until you are both retired. Then you will find out real quick if you like each other.

Good advice. Travel while you can.

For the 4th I didn’t watch the virtual fire works or attend the virtual celebration; just stayed cooped up and enjoyed my virtual freedom.

Cary is probably the most uptight place in North Carolina. If I lived in Cary I’d want to leave the country, too.

fwiw if I knew of anywhere in the Carolinas that was worth mentioning and hasn’t yet been overrun by tourists and boomers, I’d keep it to myself and wouldn’t tell a soul.

Why don’t you try reading, Fly? I think you should check out fellow New Yorker Don DeLillo … try White Noise, or Underworld. You know, in prep for your book. It’s good to see how modern America writes.

I have a friend who is also independently wealthy as a day trader. He got cancer at 40 and decided that since he only had a short time to live he was going to travel the world and dine at as many Michelin Star restaurants as he can until he passes away. Turns out he beat cancer and still is traveling the world, eating at the finest restaurants all while continuing to trade futures.

you need a mental makeover Fly.

get out of bed a half hour before everyone else and toss 2 grams of shrooms down the hatch and wash it all down with a cup of black coffee.

IT WILL BE THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY OF YOUR LIFE

Bad advice. He has too much anger in his heart right now to do that.
