Greetings from Impromptu Vacation Locale — Futures Way Up

Recently I’ve been binge watching The Office — because I’ve never seen it. Lo and behold, fate has brought me to the shit hole’d city of Scranton, to enjoy some white water rafting. I was on the water today and was a real captain — a seaman’s seaman — padding fast upon the waters with vigor and tenacity. Out of ~30 other rafters, we finished first — probably because my son and I took it a bit too seriously.

In between vehemently charging for first, we set upon a Chinese family who decided to spray us with his water guns. I then unleashed a deluge of water from my bailing bucket that nearly sunk him.

Following the water adventure, I had some burgers and fries and now I’m here gawking at Nasdaq futures +27.

Tomorrow I’ll be driving and also viewing the city of Scranton. It’s a funny thing, Scranton. If you have a little bit of money here — you can be an enormously rich man. The people here are good and strong, but also poor and fat. The history of this part of Pennsylvania is incredibly interesting — dating back to the time when men from Connecticut annexed it and fought wars to set up and settle Wilkes-Barre.

About a hundred years later, the robber barons set upon this place because of coal, steel, railroads, and also the river. Jay Gould made his fortune in the tannery business here and then later on the Erie railroad. Since the 30s, this place has undergone massive de-industrialization and it’s a shame some businesses haven’t opened here — since the area is filled with cheap labor and steeped in history.

I’ll probably bang out a blog in the morning and then touch base in Exodus throughout the day.

Ciao (the most annoying form of goodbye)

The Lackawanna is the only hotel to stay at there … right up the road from the National Railroad Museum. There’s an old mine shaft you can explore as well since you were once a “Coal Man.”

If you want rafting instead of floating, man up and do the Upper Gauley. I guarantee you there will be no water pistol sissiness.
