Check out the BEA’s “Table 6.16D Corporate Profits by Industry” and you can that actaul profits have been basically flat sicne 2012 (even ignoring the 2017 drop at the end due to repartraition tax). Of course, it could be the case that publicly traded companies have been growing earnings while private ones are shrinking at an increasing rate, but that’s not really that great a story either…
