2017 had a near perfect +1 correlation. Then we briefly flipped to a perfect -1. Then we flipped back.
Sure people can say what is happening right now, but I’ve never seen someone who can consistently predict the change in correlation. If you could, you’d be running billions. If you couldn’t, that flip mid December probably blew you up.
I’ve personally done it successfully a grand total of once in my career. When Europe announced QE and the Euro stayed positively correlated with the equity risk on trade.
