Former CIA Director under Bill Clinton, James Woolsey, is ‘stunned’ that former FBI Directors, James Comey leaked notes of private conversations with the President of the United States to his friend and then the press.
The CNN host, Fareed Zakaria, attempted to advocate on Comey’s behalf, suggesting that since Comey was a ‘private citizen’ he had the right to leak his notes. Woolsey was having none of that horseshit and said it was ‘stunning’ that ‘he would give up the secrecy of a conversation with the President of the United States.’

The downside of leaking to the press is that it give the appearance of Comey just being a bitter employee that was fired. He came right out with it when he said he did it to get a special counsel appointed. Trump didn’t give him much of a choice, cutting his throat the way that he did. This fact and his revelation about Lynch asking him to not call the Clinton thing an investigation gives his credibility / motive cover.
Trump can always fire the special council, but at his peril. There are too many legitimate questions about 21st century Russian warfare (Trump collusion notwithstanding) left unanswered for that now. Americans need to get to the bottom of Fancybears, Gucifers, GRU and Gerasimov Doctrine.

The alleged crime of collusion is tied directly to the lack of stated policy toward Russia from this administration.
Bush and Obama both ‘wanted better relations with Russia’. Each failed because of Russian aggression in the former Warsaw Pact, Russian domestic policy and our own meddling in the Middle East.
Why didn’t Trump signal his willingness to stop expanding NATO last week? Why is he stepping up attacks in Syria and escalating tension with North Korea? These are two things he could have done if he wants better relations with Russia.
Best case: Trump owes Russian oligarchy for golf course financing or some other boorish self-enrichment schemes.
Worst case: Trump is every bit short-sighted, empty-headed and lacking of impulse control as he seems.

Can you imagine the fallout if Obama had fired Comey in October 2015 because ‘the Clinton / Email thing’? Any GOP / conservative would have lost their shit, and rightfully so.

Had he found Comey’s replacement, asked for his resignation, and held a press conference announcing that he ‘decided to make a change’ at the FBI, none of this would have went down like this. Instead, he didn’t even call Comey but instead had his bodyguard deliver a pink slip to FBI headquarters while Comey was in LA, then changed his story 3 times about why he did it.
