The President’s budget chief, Mick Mulvaney, told reporters the President was negotiating a deal to keep the government operating, by offering CSR payments for Obamacare in exchange for funding for his great, big, magnanimous southern border wall.
“We’d offer them $1 of CSR payments for $1 of wall payments. Right now that’s the offer that we’ve given to our Democratic colleagues,” Mulvaney told Bloomberg Live on Friday.
Mulvaney added that the crux of the matter, in regards to keeping the government funded beyond the April 29th deadline, was Obamacare v The Wall funding.
When asked if the White House would accept ‘border security’ funding, aka literally nothing, instead of bricks for the wall, Mulvaney clarified things for the press pool, saying “elections have consequences.”
“This president should be allowed to have his highest priorities funded even though the Democrats rightly have a seat at the table because of the Senate rules,” he told Bloomberg Live. “But you cannot expect a president who just won [an] election to give up very easily on his highest priority.”
The democrats have said the wall would not be built, considering it a ‘poison pill’, and would never bend to fund it.
The spokesman for Chuck Schumer, Senate minority leader, said: “Everything had been moving smoothly until the administration moved in with a heavy hand. Not only are Democrats opposed to the wall, there is significant Republican opposition as well.”
Both democrats and republican oppose the wall, but Mulvaney insists the President is adamant about getting it done. It looks like the government will shut down, since neither side is willing to meet in the middle — because there isn’t one. You either build the wall, or you don’t.
Senator Schumer said things were going fantastic, as long as the President didn’t meddle with his petty ‘poison-pill’ projects that won him the election.
