I haven’t the slightest idea if Trumpcare will be better or worse than Obamacare. It should not surprise you when I say that I pay cash for my healthcare, via concierge service, and have zero faith in government to get this right. It is, indelibly, broken and I keep telling myself that the only way to outpace the insane rate of inflation in healthcare is by outpacing it with gains in personal earnings.
Stupidly, the market viewed this as an assault on Trump’s pro growth agenda and sold off as a consequence.

The idea of a Trump-like character changing this was always a great idea, however implementation has proven to be harder in real-life than it is to simply campaign on. The real problem isn’t with the Freedom Caucus, it lies with the Republican establishment of Ryan, McConnell, McCain and Linda Graham. We know where the Freedom Caucus stands, whereas the establishment is all talk, no action. The establishment crafted a bill that is just as unworkable as Obamacare and attempts to split the baby, rather than just scrapping the idea of government subsidized healthcare and starting over.
At the end of the day pulling the bill and having real negotiations will give us a better result, at least that’s the idea. It’s up to Ryan bring the whole party to the table. If he can’t, then he just proves himself to be an ineffectual blowhard.
Stop requiring hospitals to treat people who cannot pay. Fuck the oath. Let people die.
If we don’t have the will for the above, we should go to Medi-something for all; except with patients required to approve itemized bills and pay 15% of the full amount billed. Only if patients get some skin in the game will cost controls happen. Middleman insurance companies and HR departments will have to train for new jobs. Stiff penalties for fraud and a funded health savings account out of which the indigent pay their 15%. Side benefit is that it levels the playing field with European companies that don’t have to pay employees bloated healthcare directly.

Seriously, I thought there were some good ideas in your post. I generally think going to a system where the customer just pays cash for services, at least on some level, will lower costs. Why? Because doctors don’t have to play the billing game where they have to bill some stupid amount so they can actually get what they want. You tell a doctor you’ll pay cash, but want to negotiate a better price, I think they’d be a lot happier with that kind of a system. Sadly, the average American doesn’t have $500 in the bank though.
