Written by Steven Knight, who also writes for Peaky Blinders, starring Tom Hardy, Taboo is a dark tale of vengeance and high level chicanery. It reminded me of my favorite book of all time, The Count of Monte Cristo — a labyrinth of plotting by the main protagonist that never ceases to amaze.
During the series, Hardy plays a violent drunkard who had been away in Africa for over a decade, presumed dead, only to come back wealthy and with designs of biblical level vengeance — taking over his deceased Father’s company that had 1 redeeming quality: land in North America.
During the duration of the series, there is a dizzying array of chess moves being played out for this property, by the East India Company, the British Crown and the Americans.
After a few episodes, you might grow a little tiresome of his obsession with his half sister — wantonly promoting incest. Eventually it takes a back seat and the true essence of the show is revealed — leading up to an epic ending that is sure to get Taboo a second season.
If you like dark, sinister, testosterone driven shows, this is for you.
What new shows out there do you recommend that I see next?

I’ll have to check it out. We’ve just finished watching Sherlock Holmes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_(TV_series)
was damn good
Sherlock is one of the best shows ever made. Mycroft is in Taboo.
agreed …. cool about Mycroft .. will watch an episode tonight
I found Black sails a bit too slow in the beginning. Black Sails – best show on TV.
Love Black Sails, a personal fav, FULL COMPLIMENT.
Fargo on Fx is also pretty good.
Where is this available ? Just waiting on season 3 Bloodline in May.
You can find on dvr
Fargo is available on Amazon Prime, great show. Taboo is renewed for season 2 so I can’t wait.
Bloodline is fantastic. Just need a cocktail to calm the nerves in Season 2.
Watching bloodline today man this is epic. About three eps in so far.
How’s season two it didn’t get as good of reviews?
Jersey the reply to you was in error. Open question on taboo.
Saw season1 and enjoyed it. Not enough time damn it.
Fly, did you ever see Deadwood? Fantastic, great dialogue.
Of course.
Narcos. Plata o plomo?
Can’t blame him for wanting to poke his sister, played by Oona Chaplin. Yeah, that Chaplin. She dropped her drawers for a scene in Game of Thrones. You can tell she was a dancer. A true ladies man knows it’s all about the lower half. At some point they’ll playing soccer with their tits, but a nice ass will go a long way.
All of it is an idle waste of time and brain cells. Get to work and produce something of worth people!
… said the grumpy old man in his best Burgess Meredith voice.
Greetings Fly, assorted drunk brethren–
Anything with Peter O’Toole (Night of the Generals,) Dirk Bogarde (The Servant,) or Charlotte Rampling (The Night Porter.)
Especially Charlotte Rampling.
In the matrix/program, it feels like you have more to share about Charlotte Rampling?
Taboo sounds like upside down world Globalist propaganda. Will give it another chance. Maybe.
It’s entertainment. Lighten up. And it’s very anti establishment.
Although not new but continuing, my wife likes The Americans.
I don’t have the patience to sit through a show and usually end up reading or doing something else (Andy Griffith and Leave it to Beaver were pretty good).
Haven’t seen yet, but was wondering the consensus of the OA and Goliath?
The Last Kingdom on Netflix was pretty good.
Taboo has been a blast just have to tape it so you can skip the commercials. Man in the high castle on amazon prime is a good watch think you’d enjoy that. I treat you as my go to source on entertainment
Nice I need a new show! Thanks
No one mentioned Young Pope yet I thought it was pretty great.
That’s what was on the top of my brain stem to watch. Thanks yo.
Zen, or maybe White Chapel……the female lead in Zen ( Caterina Murino) will get your pulse moving…….
Still pissed off that HBO cancelled “Vinyl” after 1 season. Can’t believe I was the only fan
it was epic
Valhalla Rising
I just finished watching The Lego Movie with my sons and that movie was eerily prescient.
For something completely stupid, Dead Snow, both parts
the young pope
Sorrentino’s magic touch
Baz Lurhmann’s opening episode of The Get Down is a punchy tour de force (rest of the season shot by less talented folks – the story is still worth a shot)
True Detective S1 and Bloodline S1 are two of my favorite shows.
Tom Hardy is one of the best and Ben Mendelsohn is killing it also.
I think the Fly would like the Young Pope on HBO. Jude Law is pretty funny, great music.
True Detective S1 +100
May I recommend Father Ted, I’m Alan Partridge, Trigger Happy TV Extra’s, IT Crowd (big bang in USA which is garbage)…all UK comedy, do not eat or drink while watching, you’ve been warned.
For a UK movie ‘Withnail and I’ is a UK cult classic produced by George Harrison’s handmade films, something more dramatic from France ‘Le Reine Margot’ & ‘Brotherhood of the wolf’
ok these are not current but all brilliant nonetheless.

Santa Clarita diet was very funny. Took two episodes to get going.
I’m shooting a new Netflix series called Altered Carbon. Same director of photography as Sherlock and the Emmy award winning director from last years game of thrones battle for winterfell episode directed the pilot. Watch out for it. It’s going to be a good one.
Would love to see the return of Saturday Cinema, Mr. Flry.
