Indian IT Stocks Fall on H1-B Visa Legislation Proposal by Democratic Congresswoman

Democratic Congresswoman and long term advocate for American tech workers proposed a bill that will greatly fuck the Indian outsourcing problem which ingratiates the fuckhead executives in Silicon Valley.

If passed, and I think the President would be very supportive of this bill, it would destroy the H1-b visa program designated for high skilled workers. The minimum salary would jump from $60,000 to $132,000, instantly making American IT workers sought after and paid the amount the market dictates.

The High-Skilled Integrity and Fairness Act of 2017 introduced by California Congressman Zoe Lofgren prioritizes market-based allocation of visas to those companies willing to pay 200% of a wage calculated by survey, eliminates the category of lowest pay, and raises the salary level at which H1B dependent employer are exempt from non-displacement and recruitment attestation requirements to greater than $130,000.

This is more than double of the current H1B minimum wage of $60,000 which was established in 1989 and since then has remained unchanged.

The new salary limit makes it highly impossible for those already in the US on less than $1.30 lakh to stay back and those getting job offers with less than $11,000 per month salary are not eligible even to apply for a H1B visa. Thousands of IT employees working for Infosys, Microsoft, i-Gate, TCS, HCL, Wipro, Accenture, TechMahindra, etc. are the worst affected by the new law.

Earlier on, IT shares in India were crashing, led lower by Infosys, TCS, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech and Wipro, but have since recovered and losses are now moderate — ranging between -2 to -5%. I suppose the market wants to see if this bill stands a chance at passing before passing judgement on Indian IT shares.

That’s funny Zoe Lofgren represents San Jose and is basically a far left Democrat. No one in the media or her party will be critical of the bill because it proposes a higher wage rather than fewer visas, but it is basically a tariff on labor.
Would be classic to see Trump sign it with Lofgren standing at the desk.

H1B visa holders work within the US borders. They pay federal and state taxes on the income they get.

How does this stop someone like IBM from sending all their IT service jobs overseas?

No need to sponsor a H1, get work done at $17K in India/China vs $100K here.

There are two types of outsourcing, one off site and one on site. Many high level engineers are shipped in from India. Those are the ones affected.

The web design fucks will remain offsite.

Trump uses H2-B visas to get workers for his FL country club. But that’s OK. Important workers like cooks and housekeepers which are terribly difficult to find in the US. Make America Great Again. Do as I say, not as I do is a better slogan for Emperor Carnage.

Everyone should support this. It makes sense. At least put American workers on an even playing field. In truth we should probably give our people some advantages.

The H1B visa is the greatest lie told in America. On one hand they say how amazing the American college education system is, and now ridiculously expensive it is….but on the other hand these companies cry how we somehow don’t have the skilled labor here. It’s all a fucking lie and cost control. Nothing more. It’s time to end. Sorry Sanjah. Get your fellow Indians to stop pooping on the ground in public every day.

Zoe is nothing more than a corporate shill and this bill a) won’t have an affect on indian outsourcing companies b) has a snowballs chance in hell to pass.

The bill as proposed will not increase the minimum from 60k to 130k, that is only for employers that don’t want to provide paperwork proving they didn’t pass over american applicants. The body shops will continue to employee engineers at 60k per year and will use their army of HR drones and attorneys to build the paperwork showing they couldn’t find an american knowing that no one will every look at the paper work or understand it or have the time to follow up on it.

If this does pass it’ll be a nice opportunity to play the bounce since it will be business as usual for the outsourcing firms.
