White House: Mexican Imports to be Slapped with 20% Tax to Pay for Border Wall

Sorry, but I’m unable to empathize with anyone who’s against the border wall. The amount of drugs streaming into this country from that pit of hell is enough to want to go to war with them. But we can’t, so the next best thing to do is build a fortress wall in order to keep out the zombie hordes.

Plus anyway, think about this long term. Once the shit hits the fan and the global economy melts down, we won’t have to deal with millions of impoverished land apes scurrying over our feckless border, committing all sorts of raping and thievery along the way.

Sean Spicer just announced we’re gonna tax Mexican imports by 20% to pay for the wall.

Earlier today, both Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell said they’d finance the construction of the wall, which should cost $12-15b.

“We anticipate a supplemental [budget] coming from the administration,” Ryan said. “The point is we’re going to finance the Secure Fence Act.”

I’m certain it’ll come in under budget and ahead of schedule, however.

All the libtards are out now talking about how Coronas and tomatos are going to cost 20% more.

It’s not that simple. You’re going to have substitution of goods, onshoring, firms not passing on the whole amount of the tax, and so on.

Not to mention maybe this makes a dent in the $24 billion sent every year by Mexicans from the U.S., or in the preposterous costs in social services, welfare, free ER care, and all kinds of other shit that we all pay for, plus all the other second-order costs like increased costs for police protection, dealing with property damage, etc.. It’s amazing when you think about it. Perhaps the wall will also decrease the manpower or other items required for border security, too.

The libs are big fans of complexity and telling the “whole story” when it benefits them, but they’re oddly silent here.

I’m absolutely flabbergasted that a Republican President ran – and won – on the largest new government spending project that we’ve undertaken in decades.

I’m similarly flabbergasted that the first Executive Order on jobs from our “America First” President granted a project to a Canadian company.

    It’s completely and utterly bananaland…

P.S. Drugs go under the border these days.

It is a security project not a govt spending project. It is financed project to be reimbursed.

It is a border security project that includes enforcement, wall and keeping people and discouraging the risk to use illegals as pack mules.

Security projects are paid for by the government, hence the “government spending” wording. I did replace the word “infrastructure” with “government” in my original post.

And my Republican friends labelled me a socialist for the last 20 years when I said government spending can create jobs. “Government can’t create jobs.” they said.

By the way, I upvoted you.

          I didn’t down vote you.

There is an economic problem with relying on govt to create jobs because it is canibalistic in nature. If you think the govt will do it better and take it over then yes, you would be a socialist.

My belief is that the govt has primarily one function. To protect its citizens. The whining for immigrants would piss me off if I am in the inner city. Take care of our own before we take care of others.

Does the wall protect? Lockheed and Boeing are similar situations where jobs are created because they help protect.

When no one else is hiring, debt is cheap and we need to fix the roads, I believe the government should be putting more spending projects in place.

When the economy gets better, it should shut it off and pay off the bills. We’ve gotten away from that.

I think the wall is silly and expensive idea that won’t protect us from being a drug- and illegal alien-free country, but I have been wrong before. Just one look at my trading journal will prove that.

Your right. We shouldn’t secure the border because it will make other people mad.

Screw Mexico. When your prez drops F bombs publically at the new administration you will not get any preferential treatment.

Drugs IMO are secondary to human trafficing and illegal immigration. The war on drugs has the worst ROI in the business. Eliminating illegals who drain the system, don’t assimilate, and possibly end up incarcerated can save us money as well.

Mexicans tend to be violent and they steal. There kids become gangbangers half the time. The prisons are full of them. The crime stats in SoCal are a joke. Thousands of cars are stolen and not even investigated past 15 minutes. Straight to Tijuana. Given time the true toll of violence and theft will replace the fake news of the last couple decades. There is a reason Mexico is a complete shithole. But maybe Cali is unique.

People could’ve just bought American to begin with if they cared as much as they claim. Grow your own vegetables, buy from a local farmer. Pay 10% more for your house to be built. Don’t shop anywhere that hires illegals. So basically don’t ever shop at a grocery store. Punish the companies that hire illegals. Guess what though, people love their cheap shit and like to complain. They have 0 conviction. See, I’ve been MAGA before most people found their new identity. It’s because I’m a man of true conviction, and don’t need to be told what to think. Sitting in my fine eames chair, made in the great state of Michigan. Looking at my couch made in North Carolina. With a piece of garbage Ford sitting in my driveway. So build a wall, but let’s all take the blame for just being shitty humans. Always looking for someone to blame because we couldn’t do the “hard stuff” ourselves.

Good points, Joshua. The wall and this tax will serve as a forcing function, though. If people will gravitate naturally toward practices that will encourage illegal immigration and reward those who employ them, as I believe you correctly posit, then this huge ass wall and tariff will help do the job that consumers making choices would not.

Why is it so fucking hard for the Trumpetariat to wrap around their tiny goddam xenophobic brains that this fucking wall won’t work. 50 foot wall? Fifty one foot ladders, kids. The Border Patrol is very good at catching illegal immigrants moving across the border, in addition to rounding up ladders, but the migrants get detained for a couple of weeks and released for hearings, which they’re entitled to. Those hearings are scheduled for six months or more after they are released. Then they don’t show up. Guess what? Now you’ve got an undocumented immigrant. Maybe just maybe it’s worth expanding the Justice Department to process those guys quicker, so that they go straight from detention to explusion much more quickly. There is an migration OUT of the US across the southern border right now. Bolster up port security and surveillance with technology. A wall is the dumbest solution to the whole problem, so instead of worshiping Trump and sucking his tryannical cock, why don’t you fuckers put some thought into this for a change. Because the best shit you can come up with is throwing around the word “libtard.” Dumbasses.

I appreciate you reaching out for my suggestion. Since I am in fact an American civil engineer, my peer-reviewed, Masters Degree level solution is “no fucking wall.” It takes 15 seconds to hop the 10-15 high fence right now. A 20 foot wall with a few feet of footing and wooden spikes and the heads of EPA scientists as deterrents will increase that time to say 45 seconds. I regret to inform you that Improving the thickness of a doesn’t matter. The coyotes are not driving Chevy Novas into the fence a la Dukes of Hazzard. Firing guns into a foreign country is not advisable.

The materials would have to be precast concrete, and where are you going to get the steel rebar for this effort? Import it from China after Trump starts a trade war with them?

There, I just saved America $14B dollars on something useless, not to mention the headache of negotiating with private property owners on the northern edge of the wall. Or does private property not mean anything to Republicans?

Trump is welcome to repair and maintain the existing border fence with his slush fund. By all means, fix holes, replace stretches of chain link fence if there are any.

Border security is important, I agree. I’m not arguing against that. If you want to slow the drug trade, it is more effective to throw money at ports, the Coast Guard, and improve surveillance technology for the Border Patrol.

I am for the wall. We need to stop the drugs, violence, and most of all the human trafficking that goes on because of the border and the different cultures. We are just giving away our country too. We should enforce the rules. The southern border has been a long term problem, building a high tech fence/wall and pouring money into enforcement and border security is a great idea. The border states have been begging for this for decades.

    I would advise Trump to give the Mexican prez this ultimatum;
Either you get crime and drugs under control in your country or else we built a wall and use tariffs on your goods to pay for it.
Logic being, make Mexico a place where it’s citizens actually want to live and work and our illegal immigration problem will solve itself.

The flip side of this is worth contemplating also….
Don’t think for s minute China wouldn’t love to get all cozy with Mexico and establish a base there.
