This is a major victory for justice. The U.S. Senate, both democrats and republicans alike, resoundingly crushed President Obama’s veto to permit the families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks sue the terrorists who rule over Saudi Arabia.
The sole standout was long time, and very corrupt, political hack Harry Reid.
Chuck Schumer, Senator from NY, led the way to override Obama’s veto.
“This bill is near and dear to my heart as a New Yorker, because it would allow the victims of 9/11 to pursue some small measure of justice — finally giving them a legal avenue to hold accountable foreign sponsors of the terrorist attack that took from them the lives of their loved ones.”
Obama’s argument against the bill is that it’d open up the United States to similar charges and his neocon backers felt it might be bad for the military-industrial complex.
“The consequences of JASTA could be devastating to the Department of Defense and its service members — and there is no doubt that the consequences could be equally significant for our foreign affairs and intelligence communities.”
Sen.Cornyn called Obama out on his horseshit.
“He cites concerns that the bill would ‘create complications,’ he says, with some of our close partners, but the truth is JASTA only targets foreign governments who sponsor terrorist attacks on American soil, plain and simple.”
The House of Saud and their high priced lobbyists have been working feverishly to defeat this override. But due to the proximity of the election, the measure proved to be an impossible task.
This now moves to the wholly corrupt congress, where Rep. Ryan stated that he feels they have enough votes to override President Obama’s advocacy for the House of Saud.
