This is a deal born in the deepest depths of stupidity. Why on earth would Tesla dilute its awesome and inspiring car manufacturing business with fucking solar panels, other than to ingratiate its CEO, Elon Musk, who is a major shareholder of Solarcity? The optics of this deal are horrendous and it will bring forth a new brand of hatred for the shares of TSLA. And to what end?
Shares of SCTY are down 61% over the past 6 months, whereas shares of TSLA are down 5%.
TSLA is going to get shredded to pieces because of this albatross strapped around its neck.

I’m not laying bets here, but when Teslas are driving around harvesting their own power with batteries that last for years, it will become clear. The biggest obstacle to independence is being tethered to the tits of others.
Musk is going all in on green ideals. But i think he is biting more than he can chew. I call hubris as he takes on luxury bust and auto loan bust. And sustained low oil price.
If musk was realy green. He would be working in public transit. Note electric cars have huge toxic waste and eat resources as any car. Its just elite ego toy.

I quit product design because of green washing. All companies do is cheat and act like they are green but 99% of the time is just tricks and ignoring other problems. No one truely calculates the cost of recycling nor toxic waste. The only solution is less consumption, but our “more” culture only tries to fool our selves into thinking we can have it all. In the 90’s i usedmto read wired magazine cover to cover and dream of star trek world but now i see that was just an ideal and that neandrothal “i” inside each of us muast be dealt with first. But it seams we need to suffer more wars before the humans get that competition to build yourself greater than someone else leads to war in the end.
