Suntrust: If Current Trends Persist, $TWTR Will Pursue Merger

This isn’t exactly a bold call. As a publisher of digital content, I am reliant upon Twitter for traffic and engagement with readers. But many people don’t get Twitter. It’s a bit too complex for them to figure out, so they dick around with facial filters all day long on Snapchat. There is immense value in Twitter that has yet to be released. Hopefully, they can sell the property to someone that could properly manage it.

“We note that if the current trend of meager user and engagement growth remains, we think it’s inevitable that Twitter will need to pursue M&A alternatives as has been discussed in the media for some time,” he writes. “Our current read of trends suggest a difficult April and May consistent with April levels thus far.”

Peck has kept his “buy” rating on the shares given the perceived value of Twitter as an M&A target. “Twitter within a larger property could be much more efficient on the cost and development lines and benefit from the reach on the top lines,” he adds.

The analyst believes a sale would likely be a 2017 event, assuming current trends do not improve. He adds that the most likely partners for such a deal would be Google, Facebook, Apple, or a more traditional media property.

I do believe Twitter would fetch for a decent sized premium from current levels, if it were for sale.

I think that Twitter is the easiest of the social medias to understand personally. Facebook is way too complicated for me to figure out. I have no desires to try to make rainbows come out of my ass or mouth. The others I don’t even know where to start on. Twitter I just type what I am saying into a box and that’s it. Then again I am more of an OG social media person since using IRC from 1995 on.

gappingandyapping, It fascinates me how different minds work. I feel the same. Twitter is the best and easiest way to communicate. Facebookers say they don’t get TWTR and it is too complicated. What!

I always called Facebook e-scrapbooking. I’m not interested. It is great for sharing some artistic and personal sensibilities stuff but the saints preserve us, I’m sick of seeing you drinking, seeing your kids and grandparents and what superhero you would be! Gag.

I like the blog format and I get blog notifications via $TWTR.

One big difference from a stock and value perspective (as opposed to user perspective): the data-mining vale of facebook’s user base is multiples more valuable than TWTRs. In other words, think about what FCBK knows about their user’s vs what TWTR knows. Think how this translates to advertisers and ad revenue

Many new people don’t understand how to engage on Twitter and don’t like talking to themselves

Twitter is to communicate with strangers, while snapchat and Facebook are with people you know.

Good point. I like to commune with strangers. People tend to be xenophobic. If I know you, and I want to commune with you, I’ll pay you a visit.

The greatest value yet to be unlocked is making it perform more like Slack. Removing/increasing the word limit is the first step toward this…
