Saturday Cinema with Le Fly: Dances with Wolves

A former civil war veteran sheds his identity and adopts the American Indian culture, just before their extinction. This guy’s life truly sucked, having to fight those crazy as batshit southerners and then a sundry of new enemies in the western front.

This is a very atmospheric period drama, one that illustrated the warrior spirit of the American Indians, but also, tragically, their inability to survive as a society.

The systematic extermination of the American Indian was one of the worst cases of genocide over the past two hundred years. Actually, it started way before that with the Dutch and British having their way in the northeast, circa 17th century. It has been a very long and arduous experience for natives.

A few years ago, on a road trip to New England, I stopped by the Plymouth Rock and was surprised to learn, up until this day, every Thanksgiving natives travel to the Rock to lament about ceding America to Europeans. It’s a holiday of great sorrow for them and they, generally, hate the fucking rock and its symbolism.

The Spanish got the genicide rolling in the 1500s.

I recommend the book 1491. You will be amazed at how little known the scale and spread and capabilities of pre-Columbian cultures is in the general population of the US.

I think disease probably helped more than anything considering the failure of almost all other genocide attempts and the large population of Indians compared to colonists.

Fascinating information about Plymouth Rock. And a very interesting movie which I also enjoyed.

History is clear. God prefers the people with the biggest guns and most ammunition. No wonder so many people are practically religious in their love for guns.

In spite of Europeans having exterminated the Native Americans, the Natives did lots of good things in their domestic politics, many of which were borrowed by the early European settlers here. The dominant powers in the world are the ones that win militarily– not the ones who know how to get along peacefully and constructively in their own domestic relationships.

Here’s a good book where the author “traces the crucial contributions made by the Indians to our federal system of government, our democratic institutions, modern medicine, agriculture, architecture, and ecology…”

The two has, can and will exist when America is made great again.

Typical logic of a liberal mind. No logic at all.

So if I am wrong there, then tell me how. The winners are by definition the people with more firepower.

But I’m not wrong. So you just insult me. Great argument, just calling me illogical. You don’t sound so logical to me either.

Yours is unfortunately a typical response in our current culture. If someone says something, just bash them, for no reason whatsoever– well, actually for a reason. The typical response is to bash the other person if they are from a different political tribe than you are.

That’s why our country is not so great at this time. People don’t try much to think constructively and cooperate with one another to solve our nation’s problems. They just know how to bash each other. No wonder Congress does nothing but insult one another. And we taxpayers are paying them to do that.

The 2 party system Divide and Conquer program is working like a charm.
