I can’t remember the last time 83 of 100 Senators got together to agree on anything, let alone draft a letter to Obama. Israel wants more funding for its military. They’ll probably need it now that Obama’s friends in Iran have U.S. drone technology (courtesy of Obama) and ton of new money coming in thanks to the lifting of the sanctions.
Eight-three of the 100 senators signed the letter, led by Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Chris Coons. Senator Ted Cruz, a 2016 presidential candidate, was one of the 51 Republicans on board. The Senate’s Democratic White House hopeful, Bernie Sanders, was not among the 32 Democrats.
“In light of Israel’s dramatically rising defense challenges, we stand ready to support a substantially enhanced new long-term agreement to help provide Israel the resources it requires to defend itself and preserve its qualitative military edge,” said the letter, which was seen by Reuters.
Obama will be forced to act, with this bipartisan act. But you know damned well he doesn’t want to.

Let Israel produce their own “resources”. Sanders was right to stay away from this proposed handout. The United States global welfare program should be immediately terminated without a second thought.
Feel the Bern.
Those boys in the Senate sure know which side their bread is buttered on.
To the above Anti-Zionists/Anit-Semites/Self loathing whatever you are,
I am sure you are oblivious to the fired Iranian missiles that have been labeled “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” (btw, just which America is this North, South, Central?). Also the technologies granted by the US to protect the Iranians from any attacks, IN SPITE of said verbal hostilities.
Wait… there’s more – the forgiveness of monies that were found in a court of law to victims of terror attacks around the world to your fellow Americans (including non-Jews) and their support of Hezbollah which killed US Marines as well.
Israel is the only Democracy in the middle east. Just let me know when you see me in the next Gay pride parade in Riyadh, Cairo, Amman, Tripoli, Damascus, etc….(TRIPLE EXTRA HOMO).
Feel THIS Bern. I will be sadistically happy when he doesn’t make it, still fights Billary to the bitter end and just weakens her more to extremists in the party. You all deserve him.
Hypocrites.
Wow you don’t sound shrill at all. Israel has the most robust nuclear arsenal in the M.E., I’m sure they will be fine. I don’t really have an opinion on them one way or the other, except that we should stop meddling in that part of the world altogether. This whole doomsday scenario of Iran nuking Israel is laughable though, you should probably pick a new talking point. You don’t know what an anti-semite is either, jackass.
Please define what one is then.
Is it:
1. Denying the Holocaust happening?
2. Proclaiming “Death to Israel”?
3. Proclaiming “Death to Jews”?
or how about this:
prejudice against, hatred of, or discrimination against Jews as an ethnic, religious, or racial group.
Sanders has inflated carelessly the number of Palestinians killed in recent years without any proof and made no overtures to his constituency to clarify his statements…
Since you ignored my comments on Israel being the only Democracy in the M.E., are YOU homophobic?
Define Jackass.
Why don’t we just LOAN them money? Or at the very least, let them borrow and maintain military equipment but leave them as our assets? Do we give Japan weapons to protect them from China?
Israel is so ungrateful. True, Obama hasn’t treated hem well, but Nethanyahoo has been a d!ck to Obama. Obama should just setup a committee and let the next President deal with it.
China NEVER said “Death to Japan”. At least in the post WWII era.
As for ungrateful, name me another country in the world (other than Israel) that has a monument for the Sept. 11 attacks. You can’t.
Israel gave up the Gaza and got rockets back in return. WTF more do you want?

International memorial:

That was hard
Gaza was given up 20 years ago. If you want to talk history, name one country that has received even *1/2* of the aid (economical, military, etc) that Israel has since 1994.
Also, sure the Israeli’s deserve protection, but then again, their a 100 times more Asians and Africans that deserve clean water and don’t have it. So just because someone in not pro-Israel soe not make them anti-Isreal. Using your logic, you are anti-Asian and Anti African.
1. Paragraph one – Thank you – this was illuminating. I apologize.
2. Paragraph 2 – Misses the point. You can’t make peace with someone who has in their charter of all things to destroy you. Why A & A don’t have clean water mystifies me and it’s not for lack of financial effort. Funny you mention them not being anti – Israel…if you look at the UN votes, there are more anti-Israel measures than all other tyrannies COMBINED from all other countries.
3. You didn’t remark on the “Death to Japan” comment…why?
America is so sick of these fools.
Genesis 12:3King James Version (KJV)
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Are you a Christian Dominionist? Or Christian Reconstructionist? Do you read those Left Behind books about the Rapture that, in order for it to happen, the Middle East has to become a total bloodbath and Israel has to take over the whole region?
I have been reading about how people who believe these things have a lot more control over our foreign policy than is apparent to most people.
Faith Grace, what does your Bible quote have to do with giving or not giving aid to Israel?
Obama can act on the letter when the Senate holds hearings on his Supreme Court nominee.
What an excellent idea.
I have no problem with the U.S. being an ally to Israel. But sometimes I am concerned about the quality of that relationship. The U.S. should be free to disagree with Israel, or to say no to its requests, when it is reasonable to do so. Having Israel as our ally makes sense– but as our master, no, that would not be good.
However, we have allowed our government to be structured such that Congress is simply the servant to the highest bidder, with no regard whatsoever for the best interests of the country. This can easily be confirmed by the fact that Congress is not passing bills to fix our decaying infrastructure. And since the law allows campaign financing to be kept secret now, the highest bidder for Congress’s “services” could easily be coming from outside the U.S., for all any of us know.
Fly, you cheeky bastard, you love controversy, don`t you?
