THE MARKET MIGHT BE DOWN, BUT IT WANTS HIGHER

I bet you don’t read that often, amidst a 230 point cave clubbing. But the internals are really good for such a large decline, with 40% of stocks trading up for the day.

As a matter of fact, all of my top positions are up. What sort of madness is this?

This is quadruple witching day, into the teeth of Santa’s sled. Odd divergences are afoot, as investors wrestle with themselves betweenn listening to the angel vs demon on their shoulder.

For me, this trade is pretty simple. If there’s ever a time of year to be optimistic, it is now. During 2016, we are going to be harangued by awful, awful things, including the elections. But now is the time to stick our heads in the sand and make believe all is well.

I am long equities with the fervor of 10,000 Mum-a-rahs. Do not fret another 200 point downtick on Monday. That’s a super low probability outcome. Plus anyway, it’s only money. I am sure you can get back out there and make a new fortune.

Le Fly remains 95% long into this faux crash.

Is there a site out where you pull up a company’s total debt and its maturity schedule?

The 10Q’s, 10K’s and their annual reports will have it. Go to the investor relations section at the companies website.

When we have quadruple options expiry, I wish there were a way to bet on odd divergences and the market not making any sense on that Friday. That would be a bet with good odds.

Odd divergences and not making any sense? Dennis Gartman would like a moment of your time.

Was commenting on Fly’s post where he says “Odd divergences are afoot.” I guess Dennis Gartman wants a moment of Fly’s and everyone else’s time too.

Perhaps we should indeed all pay this attention to Gartman, since some claim that he is an almost perfect contrarian indicator. We could at least compute the percentages– to see what percentage of the time he is wrong. Perhaps it’s easier to find a market guru who is wrong almost all of the time, than one who is right almost all of the time.

Of course it is, because it becomes a crowded trade. Those crowded trades eventually just exhaust themselves.
