Twitter is an awesome tool, shitty business, if you know how to use it. After the close yesterday, the entire fucking Boston College (Harvard rejects) basketball team, 20 in total, claimed to have contracted e-coli after eating at Chipotle’s.
This is the absolute worst food crisis to hit any casual food chain ever. Even more, it’s a punch to the gut to all the hipsters who praise CMG for their ‘natural food’ sources. Meanwhile, MCD is cranking out absolute shit; but no one gets sick from it because MCD is a fucking machine that does one thing near perfect. And that is ‘quality control’, something CMG, obviously, is having a very difficult time getting a handle on.
Back to Twitter. I did a simple keyword search “I got sick” Chipotle and was shocked to see dozens of people claiming to have gotten ill after eating there. The thing about contracting e-coli sickness is most people don’t report it. They simply suck it up, drink lots of fluids and hope that it goes away without a trip to the doctor.
After seeing the tweets that I am about to show you, I believe shares of CMG are in for a world of pain. Now that reporting e-coli sickness from CMG is fashionable, everyone is going to be doing it now.
Clearly, the amount of incidents is being grossly under-reported.

I got e coli once. Couldn’t eat and had the runs for like a week, among other symptoms. These “sick” people are the ones who think they can handle hot salsa but they can’t. CMG should be bought on large dips.
Problem is, the Chipotle name now equates to sickness. If you aren’t feeling well (no matter the cause), and you’ve eaten at CMG in the past few days, the thought will enter your mind. Check out the Jeff Macke post that he posted on iBC yesterday. He’s recommending to give it a little more time…
On another note, I’m surprised one of the more creative types hasn’t created an e-bowl-a meme for the good folks at CMG
I think they just added a bread bowl to the menu: you can get it filled with your choice of e-coli. pork e-coli, black bean e-coli, pinto bean e-coli, vegetable medley e-coli, lettuce e-coli, etc. Personally I think they need some variety and should throw in some listeria or salmonella.
Glad I got the hell out yesterday (happy dance).
There is one other case of restaurant food poisoning worth a thought: Chi-Chi’s. Big Mexican chain in the 1980s. It eventually slid into bankruptcy because of competition but before it could reorganize a batch of green onions tainted with Hepatitis A sickened over 600 people in PA. Three died. The chain was forced to close for good the following year. The farms where this stuff is produced need to keep the sewage away from the produce.
Judging by the price action, people who use $TWTR are getting cancer
