CMG is down around 5% this morning, after news that the meat they sell on the west coast is fucking poisonous.
After being notified by health department officials in the Seattle (Wash.) and Portland, Ore. areas that they were investigating approximately 20 cases of E. coli, including people who ate at six of our restaurants in those areas, we immediately closed all of our restaurants in the area out of an abundance of caution,” Chipotle said in an emailed statement.
The company said the vast majority of its stores in the area had reported no problems. “We offer our deepest sympathies to those that have been affected by this situation.”
It is the third outbreak of food contamination at Chipotle restaurants since August. Those earlier cases involved salmonella and the highly infectious virus norovirus.
Dollars to donuts says the ecoli emanated from the ground beef, because it’s not grass fed. Cows can’t process corn, genetically modified or not. When we were kids, all of the beef was grass fed. This isn’t some hipster movement, based off some wacky idea. This is science. Eat grass fed beef; avoid being poisoned to death by ecoli.

If you must eat beef, the only proven way to avoid E. coli is to make sure the temp gets to 160 degrees. And eat locally. Grass fed beef from a slaughterhouse that processes grain fed beef can easily be contaminated.
“If you must eat beef”?? I don’t like your tone.
Sorry. I am one “that must” eat beef. Don’t take it personal. I like mine on the rare side too.
They probably got the e-coli because of some idiot who watched Obummer reaching over the splash window like that.
I prefer bear meat.
Unfortunately it seems most of the ecoli outbreaks have been from what is supposed to be the healthy stuff – green vegetables like spinach and lettuce.
Nice work on CLX
no matter how ya read this its still a shitty story.
On another note never trust weekend headlines – NBG up double digit percent after the bad news headline
1) They’ve been feeding cattle corn since before you were born. I saw feedlots using corn when I was a child.
2) In live cattle e-coli live in the gastrointestinal trace. Beef is contaminated during the butchering process. Thus you are much safer eating steaks, roasts, etc than hamburger, because in the former e-coli remain on the surface and are easily killed during cooking. With hamburger, the e-coli contamination is propagated throughout the meat, meaning it has to be cooked thoroughly.
