The Fed Threatens to Raise Rates At Least 3 Times Per Day

Its been about 1 hour since the last Fed governor threatened to raise rates. Therefore, Fed Williams, the consummate underachieving misfit, felt it incumbent upon himself to step into the fray, in order to see his put contracts rise in value.

San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank President John Williams on Thursday renewed his call for an interest-rate hike “sometime later this year,” citing near-full employment and rapidly rising house prices that may be a sign of excessive economic optimism

“Excessive economic optimism”, Fed Williams says.

BEHOLD:

Optimism

Literally fuck my life. No words.

Frickin clowns. They have to be doing this to cause a crash thus giving them political cover for another round of QE.

that makes zero sense. Why would they want capital losses? It achieves less tax revenues for the govt.

Agree and I don’t agree with it but trying to understand what possible reasoning could be causing them to act this way.

One writer thinks that the Fed folks really do fear inflation because they experienced it in their youth.

It’s hard for people not to be unduly influenced by their own experiences– to realize that their experiences may not be the same as conditions for other people at other times.

They can never raise rates and once the market catches on, all hell will break loose. Therefore, all they can do is threaten to raise rates to maintain perception that everything is okay.

Ask yourself, if they haven’t raised yet, what makes you think they ever will? Conditions haven’t improved and never will.

You are right that that IS the question– whether they will ever raise rates– or if talking about raising rates is the new raising rates.

If they fear inflation, so they think they ought to raise rates, but they really can’t, I guess they just keep jawboning. And they hope for the jawboning to have some of the effect that raising rates would have had.

Jawboning is their only policy tool now. If they could raise rates, they would have done so already. They’ve told us that they can’t.

how a 0.25% or even a 0,50% rate rise change so dramatically the inflow and outflow ( and balances ) of national and private banks / investors money flow

Again some weird game. Yellen didn’t raise then directly says think of raising. Near full employment yet not citing that all year. A lot of suspicious doublespeak. And of course .25 shouldn’t affect much at all so to speak
