why would the FBI be investigating? The cardinals and astros are segments of the MLB….this is an internal company matter.
Don’t you watch TeeVee? Any crime committed across state lines is FBI jurisdiction. Not much of a hack… they knew potential passwords.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. MLB is an organization with individual franchises that, while playing in MLB and subject to its rules, are distinct legal entities for purposes of profits, losses, legal liability, and so forth. Computer crime statutes also potentially are implicated here.
Idiot exec switches teams but continues to use same passwords on new systems. Old team uses his old passwords to access the new team’s systems. This wasn’t really hacking and the security services likely wouldn’t have done anything to help in this case unless they happened to notice logins from two different places at the same time.
