Don’t Trust the Tape

The Devil wants you to buy now, ahead of TWTR’s numbers. You’d be stupid to do that, especially since valuation is absurd and the TWTR folks haven’t been tested yet. America has entered a new ice age. Sleds have replaced automobiles in my neighborhood and commerce and school have all been shut down.

In the past, after taking large draw-downs, I’d get anxious to make back my losses right away. I’d run into the market, buying everything in sight. More often than not, that strategy failed miserably. The tape has changed and this isn’t the same Federal Reserve. The market has bounced nicely off today’s lows and I am sure there was some good money made by alert day traders. But that isn’t my game, as I opt for longer term holds of at least 1 week.

So I ask myself: “will the S&P be higher from here one week from now.” Is it a high probability trade?

I am unsure. Therefore, I remain in cash. Should something pop out at me, you will be the second to know.

    Le Fly,

In 10 years, which is worth more: FB or TWTR?

FB is already becoming more Twitter-like and they can monetize pretty much anything. Their personalization towards each user will keep them in the game longer, monetarily, at least. Masters of their craft, IMO.

The market has not (only) bounced from today’s lows, but -more importantly imho- from sept/oct support, which was…. taper chaos. What does this tell you?

TWTR to 90 (not on earnings but near term). Every analyst save Goldman is bearish. If the reaction to earnings is positive, a slew of upgrades will follow. I just wish Cramer didn’t like it…

If reaction is negative – well then winter is coming for Fidel

I may be – but is it necessarily a slam dunk that thus earnings report will cause everyone to focus on the valuation? I mean the market obviously doesn’t care about valuation today and haven’t since the IPO. If that was important, wouldn’t the stock be at 30 or something like that? All i am saying is if the reaction is positive we break the former highs at 75 and rally a little more. Doesn’t seem so outlandish to me in an environment, where select pot and biotech stocks rise 75% a day. I’m just optimistic that the stock stays detached from reality for a little longer

$TWTR is best while engaged in a high profile event: Superbowl, Political Debate, Award Shows etc. Are they Capitalizing on the Volume?
    How?

All the teens are on Twitter; all the old people are on Facebook. My kids say they can see advertising when they post but I don’t see anything on Twitter as far as advertising when I check my phone for posts.
