Recap of Obama’s Debt Ceiling Speech

Unmitigated disaster.

He spent 1 hour antagonizing Boehner and the GOP. He offered nothing but a stiff arm, admonishing all those who oppose his will. With the GOP firmly backed by the Cock (sic) brothers and a belligerent Tea Party, I view the chances of us defaulting or going over the 10/31 funding deadline at a 100% certainty.

There is nothing redeeming about Obama during this crisis. He’s demonstrated a type of stubbornness that you’d expect from a child, or a retard.

Expect the market to be atom bombed because we have a government that is disconnected from reality.

I am about 30% cash, waiting for a reason to buy. Sad.

Oh, by the way…

I disagree. You are drinking the GOP cool aid. This man is quite reasonable yet is having to work with a rather absurd and extremist element of the GOP. Its the right which is acting childish. I mean really its quite plain to see.

He’s the leader. The buck stops with him. You are the one drinking the cooled aid, you vagrant.

American politics is in a terrible place. The way its evolved over the years is polarising the country. Politicians are drunk on preserving their power. If you are republican you think democrats are idiots and vice versa. Thats no way to run a great nation.

From this side of the pond and a conservative at that i really am stunned at the quality of politics in the US. The right over there is not grounded in reality. There are not many great thinkers. It really is a Kabuki theatre. It sort of reminds me of Russia.

Of course the 24 hour news media cacophony doesn’t help matters.

Your thinking is very short term.

A poor leader would allow the debt ceiling vote to routinely become an opportunity to gain political leverage by threatening damage to the US economy and image.

Do you really want this brinksmanship to become routine? That’s what will happen if he negotiates.

Obama’s negotiations in 2011 were a mistake – an episode of poor leadership.

Declaring now that negotiations will not take place until after the debt ceiling is increased, and then sticking to that stance, is leadership.

Superpositron – how do you explain how O opposed debt cap in 2006 but should get his cap – no strings attached – today?

God forbid I should ever be held to the standards I set for how the world should be a lifetime ago. Of course, it was a different world back then…. Time changes the world and the person.

The explanation is simple: he was wrong then.

        Perfect for both sides .
Oh and btw , yields……think about the FED and the need to extend liquidity .

This has yet to play out. Not a bad positioning speech from one side halfway to go to the deadline. Fret all you want, just don’t expect anything from politicians before a minute to midnight…or maybe even just before the markets open the next day. Not that that’s what I want to see. I’m a married man with kids. I’m used to agendas set by others.

Hedge fund traders like Fly get a special low tax rate, as a favored Special Interest Group. It would be totally irrational to expect them to be anything other than Republican.

The rest of us have our own points of view and probably never the twain shall meet.

correct me if i’m wrong but isn’t the fly paying normal taxes on his non-dividend capital gains since he tends to hold longs under a year and shorts are taxed at the normal rate?

      God I love polyvalent irony.

It’s important to understand what steps a country must take to reach the Keynesian Endgame. The policies you advocate (limitless debt increases) are an important first step. The irony here, of course, is that acute monetary disorder is always characterized by a destruction of the middle class, to which I assume you belong.

The second point of irony is that you are falling for the very class warfare certain politicians have engineered for support.

I’ll leave the other layers of paradox to your imagination.
