This happened to me a few years back. Checkpoint on side of the road. No signs whatsoever…but if someone happened to be driving a “commercial” vehicle, the authorities expected that one know this phantom rule.
It was a weekend and I was driving a van to move a table. Got followed and pulled over by a cruiser. Cop approached the car with gun drawn to his side and demanded an explanation for why I hadn’t pulled across two lanes to stop. Beyond bizarre.
I gave him my license. When he returned he said, “have a nice day”, nothing more. Guessing he caught a glimpse of the vehicles registered in my name (multiple impalas, clearly). Makes me wonder what would have happened to someone else.
