Whistling Past Apple

I own a small portion of Apple, just like every gentleman north of the Bentley Subglacial Trench. I don’t let the small amount of shares change who I am as a person, a human being, breathing and bleeding, just like the rest of you. Although I am somewhat ashamed to be a part of the Tim Cook atrocity (TCA), I am broadly diversified amongst numerous stocks that serve me in varying ways, mainly to make me money.

Precious metals are dead.

Japan is alive. Transports are alive. Selective tech is working, as well as banks, brokerages and asset managers. Homebuilders and construction material stocks are working. And let’s not forget the never ending powerball taking place inside of the biotech sector. There are a hundred different ways to skin this cat. Do not fixate on Apple, a company being dismantled from the top down by one vile man.

Embrace the new bull market, froth with excess and certitude. Something really big is about to happen. A new gilded era is upon us. I hope you’re masculine enough to man the front lines. Perhaps, if you’re not feeling up to it, you can ask your wife or girlfriend to man it for you?

I asked my wife “to man it” for me.
I guess she is a bit upset about it because of the way I asked.
I said:”Okay Pal. Man it for me.”

  11. Raise taxes, Cut spending
    Raise taxes, Cut spending

Probably wouldn’t be that much different if Jobs were still around. Tim Cook isn’t running the company into the ground by any means. It is just the normal rebalancing when competitors catch up to you.
The growth option is what kept Apple’s stock so pricey, and their growth is slowing dramatically.
Apple designs and sells products and profits on their huge mark-ups. With no manufacturing base they are really dependant on consumers sticking with them. In the old days they could always count on 10% of consumers to pay the premium to own Apple, but they need a much higher percentage now to justify their valuation. Sure the Jobs charisma would help a bit but even his magic touch could not erase the fact that there are a lot of options for consumers of fancy smart phones and tablets now, and most of those options are cheaper.

Obama vs the fly. Call it a draw?

Three days into President Barack Obama’s second term and it’s clear he’s not the man he was in his first term. Just ask the fly.

A pesky Musca domestica (per pooler Brian Beutler of Talking Points Memo) landed on the president’s face during a press conference Thursday to announce his picks to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Obama swatted at the fly a couple of times, and the official White House transcript records, “This guy is bothering me here—(swatting at a fly.)”

The insect eventually left the commander in chief alone.

But the Obama of just a few years ago—of June 2009, to be precise—might not be impressed. That’s because that Obama successfully killed a fly during an interview with CNBC, boasting, “I got the sucker.”
