If you have the unfortunate fate of owning a stock that is down today, you are starkly in the minority of only 7%. In other words, you’re part of an elite group of individuals, cursed from the top down, an investor extraordinaire of magnanimous and stupid occasion.
I’ll spare you the details of why or how this rally will fail and everyone buying today is a sucker. The fact is, stocks are up, so be happy about it and rejoice. There are many things that are imperfect about the economy and the market; but today’s isn’t one of them.
Today is a hugely important day in the big scheme of things. We’re either topping out now or about to embark on a new journey much, much higher. It’s not often that we get to enjoy 93% up days and when they happen it usually means something good has taken place. Our elected officials, as perverted and drug addled as they are, managed to strike a deal. It’s not the best deal, but at least it made Grover Norquist soil his pajamas.
I’m up more than 2% today, a terrific start of the new year and feel fortunate that I didn’t listen to the devils on Twitter who were so gallantly long FAZ an TZA into today’s “fuck you, you’re dead” trading session.
My top 3 positions are VHC, HMC and EXK. I own other stocks too, such as JRCC, AAPL, RS and FB. But my destiny, if there is such a thing, lies between the brief(ed) case of an aggressive barrister and the alloy of a katana.

When the full extent of this clusterfuck of a deal is laid out in terms that the average financially illiterate American dolt can understand (most likely by someone proficient in the use of Crayolas and construction paper), the market will get punished.
I don’t know why the market is rejoicing in more futile can kicking and deficit spending, but apparently we all live for today, screw the consequences.

I am one of the unfortunate 7% who bought a small position of TZA at the close yesterday and again at the open today. It represents about 4% of my total portfolio so I have a small wager that the market pulls back from here.
In a couple of weeks those assholes in government will be discussing the debt ceiling. There is no way that they will arrive at a resolution without causing volitility in the markets once again.
I got a little lucky today and sold out of my MCP at 11.34, at that point it was up 20% for the day.
I remain 37% cash and 4% TZA.
