What the fuck is going on in this stupid country? A dozen plus people were brutally murdered while watching a fucking movie, by some asshole with an ax to grind.
There is a reason why I disallow my children from watching network tv or anything coming out of Hollywood. I don’t want them being part of the “social fabric.” Even the PG rated movies are filled with degeneracy, promoting sex, drugs and gratuitous violence. I cannot turn on the radio without some idiotic rap song identifying women as “bitches and hoes”, while promoting codeine pills and cocaine.
The social fabric of this country is being methodically unraveled, by the fucking pedophiles who work in the media. Most kids today have absentee parents and/or broken homes because Dad or Mom is too busy fucking the mailman. The parents split and the kids are raised by Warner Brothers and Saturday Night Live. Everything is a fucking joke until 12 people are shot dead inside of a movie theatre. This is heart wrenching and my deepest sympathies go out to the families who lost loved ones.
Politicians will blame guns for this massacre; but we all know who is to blame. It’s the lack of respect and honor amongst people that leads to such senseless crimes. Nothing is sacred anymore, not even children. When you stop caring about the well-being of children, sentencing convicted pedophiles to serve less time in prison than a drug dealer or a shop-lifter, there is nothing left saving in society.
I cannot speak for other countries. But I can tell you this, with 100% certainty: America is filled with rot, from the top down, and is in desperate need of a hard reset.

I remember reading about serial killers and degenerates of their ilk and it’s more about their psychological makeup whereby they lack compassion or restraint and lose touch with reality. They exhibit actions that are centered with consistently serving themselves instead of anything else. Pleasure is harder to come by in typical behaviour and whatever they mentally attach to that delivers a short moment of pleasure becomes an addiction, often in the form of sex or violence, which are very strong emotions. The urgency of self-gratification overwhelms their thoughts.
When the ethos of a culture breaks down you have the distribution of people that are normally altruistic become more self-serving which degenerates into psychopathy. I have no reserve saying that I believe investment bankers that specifically ruin lives with “their deals” harbor traits of psychopaths. Do not mistake this with capitalism or value creation. Fly must be too young to realize that every single generation for the last 100 (200?) years has ranted about the decadent destruction of [America, their city, their state, Western Civilization, humankind, their Country Club].
The country and the world is and always has been full of depravity and horrific tragedies. What varies most is not the level of tragedy and depravity, but which groups of people are more likely to be the victims are and which incidents gain wide publicity.
Children have always been high on the list of victims, so nothing has changed there. I only wish that the biggest danger to children in our country today was pedophiles. That’s a problem we could focus on together as a country and reduce significantly. But, consider the frequent comments on iBC about food stamps, welfare, unemployment, etc., and you’ll see that the consensus opinion around here is that it’s just too bad for the children if their parents aren’t able or aren’t willing to raise them in healthy, enriching environments.
And “most kids today have absentee parents and/or broken homes because Dad or Mom is too busy fucking the mailman” sounds more like the kind of TV or Hollywood trash you are ranting about than like reality. I’d venture to guess that a lot of the absentee parents are working multiple jobs or long hours, trying to manage growing costs of living in the face of real wage stagnation for a large portion of the country.
While I believe that there’s no big change in society to justify a “things are broken now” rant, a “there are a lot of problems to address” rant will always work.
I’m on board with limiting the exposure of young children to most broadcast/cable media. We don’t have cable and don’t have an antenna to receive broadcast TV. We select videos to watch. In the car, it is usually books on tape, CDs, or NPR. A big bonus for parents is that, without the barrage of ads, children aren’t turned into brainwashed in-home agents for the advertised toys and sweets.

Honestly it sounds like a lot of you are becoming curmudgeons as you age. When was the last time you had a conversation with someone around 18? Not the cashier at McD’s, someone that is attending college. Based on what I can tell being smart is much more accepted and ‘cool’ than 15 years ago when I graduated HS. I’ll strongly agree with Fly on one thing here, family values matter. Unfortunately it’s a small defense against the full media barage in all its forms.
The cynical and hateful tripe directed at each other in these comments is a pretty good indicator of where we continue to head as a nation. There’s no room anymore for honest discourse and dialogue. Whoever shouts the loudest or comes up with the most creative insults wins. If you can destroy a persons character you win.
Personally, I think it is this willingness to hate and tear each other down without remorse that spawns the type of killers who gun down innocents.

Some perspective needed… in a country of 312+ million people, it is absolutely incredible that our species does not partake in such events at a more frequent rate.
This country may be going through a period (a generation or two) where it is coming to grips with its freedom from religiously imposed set of morals (which was a good start for humanity, but as with everything, can and should be improved upon). Morals will be relearned the hard way… but this time humanity will understand where their morals actually come from, rather than the fad god story of the century.
The pendulum will swing back, as it always does. But not until “shock” humor has taken its course and the “shock” has all been used up. Not until breasts replace guns and bullets on your prime time line-up, followed at last by men and women wearing suits and ties and men with the decency to wear hats to cover up those unsightly receding hairlines. (and by prime-time line-up, insert your internet virtual reality super fun happy hour, or whatever the masses may be doing to get their jollies).
