I blew out of RBCN, turning a 15% loser into a 17% winner through patience and averaging in. It was one of my larger positions, aside from DECK and LULU–which was sold on Friday. Now I am just stuck with DECK, MTW, WNR, GSVC and a little GMXR–with a side course of TZA laser beam soup.
My cash position stands at exactly 50% and my year to date gains at 6%.

Investment is an intersting word. When I was touring Naples, Fla., in August and the market was tanking 500 points, the realtor would check his voice mails and say, “People are panicking and cancelling their rentals (for the winter months.” He also thought the real estate market down there could drop another 20 to 30 percent. Recently,a friend of mine who is pretty wealty bought a house in Cape Coral, Fla., in six days. But then she wrote in here annual Christmas card; “learning the ropes of owning a home here – pool pumps, air conditioning, boat lifts, insect mitigation, hurricane shutters, alligators….what?”
What about when your holdings go down %20? With a house you always have income from rentals.
I looked into it. The realtor can also, for a fee, rent your place out under the conditions of the Condo Association,and for many places, there are pretty stiff restrictions. My guy has been very picky, to the point where I e-mail him and say, “Have you forgot about me?” But he knows the ropes re: condo fees and whatever the hell else you get hit with down there. Patience.

I am not a brother, first off, and secondly, I am just relaying information. I’m sure Scott will perform his due diligence prior to making any investment decision. There’s other ways to invest in real estate via ETFs: VNQ, IYR, ICF, REZ to name a few…We’re just having a conversation so no need to get in anyone’s face…

i recently took a hard look at my portfolio and bought 2 townhomes. both are rented out and i estimate 6% after tax not including inflation. i’ll pick up another this summer. (in texas, inflation running at 3% at best)
i believe you have to have more than two means of income. your job and the market are not enough.
I guess that means stocks are the way to go
they are both investments, but quite different. Opportunities in both – but you need to know what you are doing.
Some great RE bargains out there, but you must know how to find them. Some ideas:
only buy deeply discounted (that usually means direct – not from a realtor)
only buy top quality locations & condition
only buy local markets you know well
no condos (fees)
RE is less liquid. expect top hold for awhile. Momo traders will not bail you out

Considering it was a large holding of sir Fly’s, and it jammed up into the close, there must be some other folks who are buying it (not to mention shorts covering)
