I feel that many of you are where I was 10 years ago and no matter what I say or do– you’re gonna blow yourselves up anyway, as is the nature of the market.
I feel I spend too much money.
I feel my bank account is too big, compared to the size of my house.
I feel nothing at all towards religion, even though I grew up catholic, as an altar boy, and all of that shit.
I feel making money in stocks isn’t so much fun anymore and my clients are fucking ingrates.
I feel they have no idea how lucky they are to have me. They could have you.
I feel the years are getting by me and I am not accomplishing enough. My kids are getting bigger and it makes me sad to see their baby faces mature.
I feel like this website is a revolution in finance and if people cannot relate to my passion, they can leave. Everyone hears my thunder, but fears to acknowledge it. Fuck them.
I feel that every other website is horse shit, even if I like them.
I feel friendship is overrated.
I feel selfishness is the worst of all possible traits and I do not want to be around anyone who talks about himself for more than 2 minutes.
I feel like moving out of NY, but do not know where to go.
I feel like opening a hedge fund, but don’t feel like going through the process of making it happen.
I still feel poor, even though I have money.
I feel like I want to read more of the classics.
I feel sorry for people who never find a job they love.
I feel if I drank coffee that would make me weak (I quit 9 months ago). I do not think it’s healthy and I always make an effort to eat healthy. Therefore, I will never drink coffee again.
I feel rage towards lazy people who do not find pride in their work. The small things matter.
I feel that by writing about my feelings on a blog is bitch-like, so I am going to stop right now.
If you enjoy the content at iBankCoin, please follow us on Twitter

what the fuck is this?
I feel like banning you.
Fly can I invite you to my apartment in Boston for Shabbat dinner some weekend? It will help you.
no
How kind of you. Glad to see a fellow tribesman hanging around here and spreading some goodwill.
If the fly agrees, can I come for shabbat dinner too? Haha.
I’d invite everyone at IBC if I had a big enough place. One day b”H
Anyway, best advice I ever heard was money can never be the goal, it is only a means to higher goal.
No one will be happy if they define themselves by material pleasures which are fleeting, such as money, physical abilities, or good looks. These things can leave us and there goes our identity and happiness. Find something deeper.
Also, anyone who says “I hate religion” is fooling themselves.
Literally everyone on this planet with a functioning brain is religious. Religion literally just means a set of beliefs by which you lead your life. Everyone has such a set whether or not they are consciously aware of it.
The question is what are your beliefs?
Religion does not have to be dogmatic.
get a room with your ego preacher.
Lol
touche.
That would be “rebbe,” please.
_____
If you don’t believe in a God, your beliefs are not a religion, which I believe is the case with Fly.
well that depends on how you define a god but anyway i suppose this isnt the right forum for this discussion, i did go too far with the comments
it was all in fun!
You’re confusing a belief system with religion. All religions require faith. Belief systems do not.
However, if you study and practice shamanism long enough, you will eventually realize all of it requires faith. Shamanism is the practice of directing faith according to the will.
The oldest religion in existence is Aboriginal Dreamtime (60,000+ years old) and the basis of it is the same as every other ancient religion — this world is a shared dream that is malleable and can be formed according to will, either directly or indirectly.
I just taught you 12 lifetimes worth of knowledge. Now go play with yourself.
I think you’re mixing up spirituality (which can be called religion as you describe it) and ‘organized religion’ which is what is called ‘religion’ today. So when someone says they hate religion they mean the church, not the spirituality.
Organized religion does not matter. All practice ultimately takes place at the individual level, and not the community level. Only you have a unique relationship with your practice. Hating the church is therefore irrelevant and a waste of time. The larger organized effort merely points the way and does not own your own practice. No two Catholics practice the same way, for example.
Can’t help it love the Fly’s writing.
Come to Denver, it is the only place I’ve ever liked besides NYC. And i’ve lived everywhere.
Of course, you will undergo a sort of culture shock and will need many months and possibly a year or two to adjust. People are nice, life is good, activities are plenty. It is all somewhat disorienting.
My advice, escape from the east coast, if you can. You only live once.
But Denver is filled with mountains and you fuckers drive off cliffs by accident all the time. I’d rather avoid driving in mountains.
Chicago? nah, i want to move too
Chicago is the nicer New York.
And colder… much colder.
______
Try 0hio. Flat land, no mountains. You could build a castle for the cost of a two bedroom apartment in NY.
0hio is filled with pasty cow fuckers.
We’re only pasty in the winter
At least Texas has sun-crisped, leather-skin rawhide cow fuckers.
i obviously don’t laugh enough, because i just spit wine on my screen reading this chain. i need more practice.
keep on keepin on boyz… and thanks for the hilarity!
Try the US island of Kaua’i. Man that place is nice… especially the areas around Poipu and Waimea.
no go; last time I puked it was on a boat around there. It’s as if nobody’s in charge of the waves. Waimea is nice, though. Fly’s made enough money to buy a compromise: move Boulder’s Flat Irons to north Texas, then you’ve got mountains, leather-skin, AND all the religious right-wing tea party wackos (a.k.a., entertainment) you could ask for. I miss the flat irons…
Once Fly’s overcomes his fears of becoming a compulsive LV gambler, he’d live to the hilt in Vegas.
The food alone challenges NYC.
Then you have solid weather, a 30 minute flight into Hollywood and Malibu.
I bet Fly could pick up a sick condo floor for at City Center for said Hedge project. Get some killer light Fx easements going.
Hell, wall street would ditch the east coast (well, I guess there is some history there).
Park the family out in Henderson where the rich and famous play.
I had a friend in Chicago who refused to move anywhere else due to fear of all manner of natural disaster. Refused Cali due to fear of earthquakes, refused the midwest for fear of tornadoes, wouldn’t do miami because he was terrified of hurricanes.
Still lives on the north side there to this very day….not a bad place but he will die bored for having lived his own sort of ground-hogs day.
But then, i bore easily and he can get by just watching football Thursday through Sunday.
Chicago is great for live blues and good restaurants. Beyond that, it kinda sucks. The fucking lake is too cold to swim in.
Tell your Dad Chicago is the Midwest, btw.
_______
You wouldn’t like Bend, Oregon, it’s absolutely beautiful, but the mountain passes are treacherous.
Although, they say it could become the “new silicone valley”, with Facebook and Apple coming into town. (pop. 80k)
Get the he*l out of New York before it sucks out your soul like a giant vortex.
Denver, the sunshine state – gorgeous…plus you could knock out #2 & 3.
Colorado Springs kicks ass over Denver any day of the week.
Denver is pretty awesome and have often thought about moving there.
Denver is too far from the ocean.
Austin, TX is the city of the future. Great food, music, festivals, hill country, no income tax, cheap land, lakes, big trucks, guns and pretty women
We moved to Denver 6 years ago from San Jose. Denver is a great place to live. Love it here.
You seriously think Fly only lives once?
ha, touche´
A wise man once told me, if you love what you do… You’ll never have to work a day in your life.
Have you found what you love to do?
Indeed I have.
I’m jealous because I have not found it yet. What would that be, if you don’t mind me asking?
It doesn’t matter what I do that makes me happy… You should be asking yourself… What makes Dog happy.
dog = god spelled backwards?
yes
I know you have!
Too much feeling…LOL
No coffee? Damn, and I bought a Kuerig machine because of you!
That post took about 1 minute, and 58 seconds to absorb, so you are keeping to the two minute rule.
This market sucks.
Thank you. That is all.
Although I will find my own way you have been a lot of help the last couple months guiding a lot of us through this tough time, even when you curse us. Tough love is underrated these days. I think you’re addicted to helping others even though you hate people but if this is your last post thanks for the help.

Fly is in a melancholy mood?
We will cheer you up.
Your best years are ahead.
I won’t lie…I shed a tear there.
Son of a bitch! You beat me to it. 😉
I feel like I have been trading like shit.
It’s not your fault.
Remove the feelings and improve your trading.
Use the Force, Luke!

Fly, it’s getting close to that “resolution” time of year the New Year. With your year pretty much wrapped up, start your list and get on with it. Get an early jump. Like always, go big or go home.
You’re an awesome guy, Fly.
Have you ever read “The Agony and The Ecstacy” by Irving Stone? Mr. Partridge recommended it to me last summer and I could not put it down. You can get it at the library. Another really good book is “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver.
I don’t like going to library. Too many people touch the books. I buy books on my ipad.
OK, the book by Irving Stone is an incredible biography about Michelangelo. Simply amazing. Andn the other novel by Kingsolver – well – it is told in the third person by a young girl whose Southern family ends up on a missionary trip in the Congo during its civil war. Just suggestions, not advice.
will read the Stone one
But please keep in mind this book is based on “some” facts from Michelangelo’s biography and mostly has no value as a source of knowledge. Mostly as a source of inspiration and entertainment.
For instance, prior to painting Sixt’ Capella the greatest artist af all times has spent almost 2 years getting reed of pre-payment funds in ‘bars’ and ‘saloons’ and then quickly did his job in 1 year or so. While Mr. Stone has very vivid pictures of ‘Agony’ of a hard working man.
Although this doesn’t make both artists any less valuable for the mankind.
Careful, Michelangelo was a very gay dude. There are precious few women on the Sistine Chapel for a reason. We know how that orientation upsets you.
Check out Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, a solid collection of thoughts on life
The translation called The Emperor’s Handbook is especially good. Tell me that’s not a Fly title.
Now THERE is a recommendation!
Very nice.
(Barbara Kingsolver! Pffffft!)
Barbara Kingsolver is a commie asshat. And her writing is waaaaaay overrated.
(She’s Ky-local too)

I feel, no I know, my pecker is large compared to the rest of my body…..
Yesterday a high school student whom I knew in middle school said to me in front of her friends, “Miss, wasn’t I bad in middle school?” She is pregnant now and trying to graduate high school. I said, “Nope. There is no such thing as bad kids, only kids who make bad choices.” The same goes for traders and spouses and co-workers. In large part we are what we decide.
I enjoy these posts, Fly.
I agree that iBC is a revolution.
First lyrics from country music in a previous post today, now this? What freaking nefarious, evil, alien SOB abducted M. Le Fly and left us with Casper Milquetoast?
I knew I shouldn’t have watched that PBS show about string theory and parallel universes.
Methinks I’m screwed.
I don’t know what you are talking about, with regards to country lyrics. If I did that, it was coincidence.
“might have been CHEAPER TO KEEP HER….” a divorce reference in last post — Aaron Lines lyrics.
My God you didn’t even know you did it — they’re controlling your mind too.
Denver sure is a pretty place.

i feel like reading the first paragraph over and over. and… if you never want to feel the cold move to southern california.
Do what you love. I’m quitting my job that makes me a comfortable 75K a year as a single 24 year old guy and pursuing a career in electronic dance music production. Money is just a number. And a piece of paper. Making music where someone like Le Fly posts on blogs everyday – priceless.
Money pays for your cars.
The scene really blew up this year and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for EDM in the US.
Best wishes fellow EDM lover & trader!
Uh… dude don’t do that.

Electronic Dance Music is blowing up here in the United States. You see companies like Insomniac coming up and turn raves/concerts into multi-million dollar productions per event which brings in tens of millions of dollars in revenue per day/event.

EDM is here to stay for a very long time. It’s a great business model, similar to the tobacco industry. “I’ll tell you why I like the cigarette business. It cost a penny to make. Sell it for a dollar. It’s addictive. And there’s a fantastic brand loyalty.” – Warren Buffett
Let the guy dream 🙂
Move to Alaska and dig for gold.
That, Mr. Livermore, is my dream job. I would love to do that, but on a large scale.
Fuck! I was down 3.5% today even though I was about 20% in cash! How you managed only a .5% loss today is a stroke of genius! You are amazing and I am not fuckin around!
I managed a 1.5% portfolio gain today, using 20% of my portfolio. What does that make me? The grey-bearded dude behind the Matrix?
stop talking about yourselves
Fly, I can relate to a couple things you said:
“I feel nothing at all towards religion, even though I grew up catholic, as an altar boy, and all of that shit.”
Religion means nothing any more, especially in NYC.
Speaking of NYC, u say you want to move out but have no where to go. I’ve told my friends many times I want out of here. But, my whole family is here, as is my wifes fam. I thought Maryland might be cool?!?
“I feel sorry for people who never find a job they love.”
You mean people like me? financial consulting isnt like it used to be.
Its weird, b/c you make a statement like that, but then you say things like, “I feel making money in stocks isn’t so much fun anymore and my clients are fucking ingrates.”
and, “I feel like this website is a revolution in finance and if people cannot relate to my passion, they can leave.”
That is confusing!
Can we please just set up a PPT golf outing this summer?!?
If you do what you love but then have no money to live the life you want to or provide for your family, whats the point? I’ll take my job I don’t love or hate, but pays well so I can live the life I want to live.
true.
That’s it.
Don’t ever stop posting Fly. I will never subscribe to premium just because of my huge ego, but you and your site is one of the few non-bullshitters.
have made more on ppt than it costs, easily. this is over a few month period.

You don’t need to subscribe. It’s not for everyone.

In time, you will see all you have is family, hopefully.
If you’re in search of a new, high-quality place to live, I suggest giving some of the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia some consideration. Also, although most of Philadelphia proper is a flea-infested poverty farm you should avoid at all costs, there is a great neighborhood in Philly called Chestnut Hill that is on the very edge of Philly and is an enclave filled with distinguished gentleman and is generally free of pikers.
These conveniently-located, nice areas within the Philadelphia area really do offer a great quality of life, complete with access to a great housing stock, high-end shopping, excellent dining, top notch private schools, great health care and easy accessibility to the entire east coast and beyond. Housing here is a steal and property taxes are low. You should look at houses in the 19118 zip code to see what I’m talking about.
Philly is a shit hole
It’s the new Iraq
Fair enough. How about Boulder, CO?
Boulder is a yuppie & Hippie haven, not that there is anything wrong with that.
Come to North Carolina. @tradefast just bought a place down here.
I am leaning towards Cary.
My best friend just bought a farm near Cary. Still does most of his work in LA & NY, but NY is a quick flight. Airport is roughly an hour away.
Beautiful country. There are good private schools in the area, too.
Love our new place in the country outside of Boston, but would recommend NC for most people.
Greenville, South Carolina.
You heard it here first.
It’s the Triangle 20 years ago, with a nicer downtown.
Absolutely beautiful.
Triangle is full of Yankees. That’s why I’m not inviting you to Lou. They are full up on their New Yawkah quota for this decade.
(“Keep Louisville Friendly” initiative… I set them back many years, mayor had to cut the quota in half, etc, etc. It was terrible. If the Fly moved down here they’d probably have to deport some of us for balance.)
_______
Cary is nice. It also stands for Containment Area for Relocated Yankees.
Now THAT is funny.
And freakin’ true.

i rue the day he vanishes. you’re heard brutha.
wow .. I have no comments… but you gave me goosebumps again man
Fly, why not move to La Jolla? I am an ex New Yorker and its great here.
La Jolla is perfect.
Yes its great. Go back to NYC every 6 weeks and get your fix, I do it and love it. Getting out of the grind is fun.
Del Mar too.
Oh yeah, Montecito (Santa Barbara).
It’s called the “French Riviera” for a reason.
Brother lives in Carlsbad. Not bad if you are of the conservative bent.
I can’t help but think there’s some karmic tradeoff for Southern California, however.
Maybe it’s Jerry Brown?
____
La Jolla – http://www.hurwitzjamesco.com/razor/detail.htm

Californication, brother. Washington state is a condensed version of everything good in the entire US. We have Canada next door. The ocean. The Sound. Plenty of lakes. Eastern WA where it’s dry. Fishing, hiking, hunting, mountain climbing, skiing, surfing, boating, sailing, kayaking, paragliding, sasquatch, Indians, seafood, diving, old growth forest… we got it all. Plus, an excellent music and art scene.
Just moved from Tacoma after 4 years… Man I loved it out there, wish I could get back soon. Great area for everything.
Come back home, brother. Forgot to mention the wine scene.
Water’s too cold.

i take it you’ve gone the managed account route so far Fly..take it from me, as someone who moved from that to the LP game 12 months ago..don’t do it..just one fucking headache after another..people are cocksuckers, which means your time dealing with legal issues will explode…also, get out of NYC…that loveless concrete slab is not for your children..
give me an example.
Your LP’s are just bigger clients. Their lawyers are that much scarier.
_______
There is nothing to worry about until the S&P hits 300.
Cary NC is very nice. I have a good friend that lives there, it is one hour from me. And Raleigh is right next to it and Raleigh is nice. A lot of tech there (research triangle park) UNC is close by.
Artist… he’s been down there. The obvious stuff is less necessary.
______
North Carolina is nice. So is California.
I live in Western Washington but can’t recommend it. I love the scenery and the moderate climate. But the months on end of cloudiness make everyone depressed. They pretend that the clouds don’t bother them and that they are not depressed– which makes it even worse.
I miss New Orleans, where I grew up, but not enough to put up with that heat for most of the year– the almost never-ending summer, plus hurricane risk. But the most friendly fun people in the world. Western Washington people are unbelievably boring, by comparison.
If you lived in Lousiana, you wouldn’t say that friendship is over-rated. But in Washington state you still would.
No place is perfect.
I moved to Mammoth Mountain, CA, to snowboard everyday. I love it so much.
That’s where my Carlsbad, CA bro goes snowboarding.
____
I feel for you, your clients, and the dumb posters here such as myself. I feel for those that have lost money in the market, and those that have taken it from them. I feel that you you, Mr. Fly should learn how to play flamenco guitar. Both you and your wife would benefit from that. My market advice is as much bullshit as anyone here posting, but flamenco music is fucking awesome. I would go long in margin if there was a 3x flamenco ETF.
Fuck your flamingo guitar
You’re right, 10 yrs ago I was in NYC. I wanted to go see the 9/11 aftermath for myself.
And, you just spent more that 2 minutes talking about yourself. But it’s okay. Sometimes people gotta do that and their friends have to listen.
i can relate to that
Santa Monica, Los Angeles.
Why?
The only reason to live in New York past age 30 is restaurants. LA has almost as many good restaurants as NY, plus you get a backyard, the beach, and good weather year-round.
Let’s face it, you’re not going to move to North Carolina. What the fuck would you do when you got there?
Fuck NC’s gorgeous women and visit the Outer Banks each weekend. That bit of coastline is the best on the East Coast, IMO.
I think Mrs. Fly (who is already gorgeous) might have a problem with that first suggestion.
_________
Santa Monica has too many liberals for Fly, he’d go Hannibal. Pacific Palisades, near Malibu and Promenade.
Manhattan beach
Screw that. You want to be Southwest Orange County, minimum.
Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, etc.
________
Fly,
Ever since I’ve joined the IBC and PPT service, I am so entertained and educated! No shit, you are doing some good in the world no matter what the market does. My husband always wants to know why I’m in my office at home laughing my head off now. BTW, you should move to Santa Cruz or Carmel CA. It’s near silicon valley and SF but absolutely gorgeous ocean and golf cources with lots of rich and beautiful people and heavely weather, resturants, etc. You can even send you children to public school in Carmel or PG. No shit. I lived in the hamptons for years and got really sick of the snobs. Here, everyone is easy going and friendly. Come on down!!
Carmel is very nice. One of the main reasons we left Ca. was the schools. But that area is very nice. My brother & family still lives in Woodside, also a nice area, but not cheap.
Clint Eastwood is mayor!

London, New York, Taipei, New York, Denver, London, New York, Hong Kong, Sydney, and about to head back to London. I’ve got more positive things to say than criticisms for all of these “spots”, but maybe “variety” is the spice of life.
All of your comments sound like you are telling yourself you are missing something. It seems like a fear of commitment perhaps; it rings true for nearly all of the statements. I’m not saying that is bad either, just a statement to ponder.
Long time reader, first time poster. I respect and appreciate your work.
You should try Zurich. Extremely civilized city, people mind their own business but are polite when you talk to them. Above all I was very impressed by the work ethic. People working in grocery stores were almost running as they carried stuff around. Amazing food.
Sir Fly if I may…..ahem…
-You probably DO spend too much money..
-Your bank account can NEVER be too large in relation to anything.
-The size of your house means fuck-all (except to a needle dick)
-Your wife and kids are all that matter.
-Don’t listen to anybody who says-“move to the shithole I live in!”
-You already live in the center of the Universe, if anything, I think you should move closer: Manhattan.
-Children need parents who love them, and you obviously do love yours; it doesn’t matter after tht where they are raised, and NYC is as good as any.(Just get ’em out to “the woods” once in a while so they get “reality”.
-Show them the world, and don’t be afraid to let them feel uncomfortable;it’s good for them.
-In the end, “working” is simply the act of trading something that is infinitely valuable (one’s life) for mere baubles…..
… I have always liked your posts … another example why !!!

I moved from NYC to Denver for 3 years and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I’m back in NYC for a year now because the grass is always greener and I missed my family. I do miss Denver – it aligned with everything I wanted in life. I’m glad I took that risk because of the experiences I had traveling the rockies.
When your on your deathbed you won’t think of the days you spent trading but the experiences in your life and the time you spent with your family and loved ones.
I feel like this was a great post.
Life is full of these contradictions.
I feel like it is silly people are suggesting places to for you to move.
You are the Fly and I appreciate what you do.
Life is short, fly, your lifes great cuz you found your passion. Fuck bigger houses, just more to deal with and impress strangers who careless. UK Cameron seems to have pissed off everyone tonight.

Fly,
What were your takeaways from the Seth Klarman interview you posted a few days ago?
You need to start drinking again, including coffee – all this feelings stuff makes me want to puke.
And face it, you will never live any place else but the NYC metro area. Because you need to be within an hour of the ocean, great Italian food, and people in the rest of the country would just bore the crap out of you.
I feel friendship is overrated.
My first thought, you need better friends. However, I don’t have any good friends. 🙂
I agree with myself. I need to get better friends.
