Goldman lost money on purpose, just to disarm the Occupy Wall Street crowd from sashaying around with headline news. They could have easily reduced compensation from 40% to a lower number and avoid looking like a bunch of losers. But “The Blankfein” is a clever bastard, always thinking ahead. Betting against Goldman has been a very successful trade this year. However, I sense the downside to the stock is now limited, ironically, now that they are booking losses, albeit on purpose.
As an aside, I’d like to offer 10,000 apologies to some of you for my recent spate of partisan commentary. Between Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street protests, I am losing my mind. I want to launch scud missiles–tipped with mustard gas heads– from my silo in Brooklyn, into said protests. I have the orbital space cannon (OSC) on standby and ready to vaporize whole columns of lightly armored vehicles.
As for stocks, I expect more downside today and for the rest of the year, especially on holidays. Whatever version of doom and gloom you have going on there, talking shit at cocktail parties, blogging about FEMA camps, “The Fly” one-ups you with talk of market crashes on Christmas and other such holy retail days. I’m talking about the Easter Bunny eating your face, whilst your portfolio hits zero. Sorry about that one. It is too early in the morning to even think about the fucking Easter Bunny.
As an odd form of consolation, please accept this “musical piece” as payment for my transgressions.

I’m a bit surprised that all of America has forgotten those five fateful words of Marshall McLuhan: the medium is the message.
The point of OWS isn’t a set of demands, or other drivel that will be promised and then vengefully withdrawn. It is, very simply, that a lot of people are frustrated by their inability to otherwise communicate to the powerful – the rich and the politicians in this case but I suspect it’s more general than that.
I’m no seer so I don’t know how this will end, but I know better than to blithely disregard OWS as the babyish howls of the pampered. The message is that other ways of getting the message across don’t work, or at least are not perceived by the protesters to work meaningfully.
The Tea Party started out with the same message but then got distracted by a couple of photogenic airheaded MILFs. Time will tell, but the last major message that was originally ignored lead to the Baby Boomer generation and the abundance of follies they visited upon us. So it seems we ignore these messages at our peril.
I’m reminded of that famous scene from Annie Hall (or was it Manhattan?, no matter) where Woody Allen is on line w. his girlfriend listening to this guy bloviate about Marshall McLuhan, only to have the real MM turnaround and tell the guy he was full of shit.

I disagree with almost all that. Many jobs are returning from India. Call centers are being established in the US. Its really hard to get help from someone you cannot understand. Corporations are realizing the cost savings are illusionary. US manufacturing is recovering. And the protesters have no unifying message, they are a conglomeration of many splinter groups with no real understanding of the economy. Not to ignore them, but I think the electorate will not support their aims.
Jobs are always going to go where they can go to get the most bang for their buck. If you are American and think that’s “greedy”, I think you are greedy. Afterall the people in another country are more desperate for a job and are more willing to work more for less. Unemployment would be a lot lower if minimum wage were $3.00 and people were willing to work for that little, and if unemployment didn’t exist. Higher wages=higher unemployment. It’s just the facts, add it up.
Unemployment would be a LOT lower if we had a $10 minimum wage, a 30-hour work week, and mandatory double time for overtime over 30.
And: A 110% tax on ALL income above $250K.
Someone told me the other day that unemployment is mostly self-inflicted or voluntary. I know some folks that are unemployed and I’m becoming convinced it is self-inflicted. There are jobs out there but Americans believe they are better than what is available.
Before you come on here, you must learn math.
Forget about Econ 101, that’s years ahead.
