For whatever reason, I was wrong buying FAZ yesterday, so I quickly sold it this morning for a 40 cent loss. In the big scheme of things, I piss on 40 cent losses.
Immediately, I started bulking up on PSUN. I wanted to buy LIZ and FLS too, but the shadows near my favorite urinal threatened to decapitate me if I did that. So for now, I am cash rich, but all long.

CHS has been my third big retail winner this year after the big runs in ETH and DSW. It got another upgrade today.
NYX is now profitable for me and should continue to do well. October volume at all of the retail brokerages was up (Knight, AMTD, ETFC) over September and hopefully the recent high flying NDAQ performance will converge with the NYSE stalwarts, as witnessed by the volume in GM.

But let me rant here a bit. There is zero fundematal investing right now.
Sharks like you look for weakness and pound stocks based on forcing shorts to cover.
How is this trading healthy for the markets in the long term? Doesn’t it completely make the retail investor lose faith in the markets?
Why would a retail investor buy and hold in such an environemt?
I think this manipulation bullshit is going to destroy the long term future of the stock market because everyone will feel like they are getting gamed.
Curious to hear your feedback if you so desire.
I know this wasn’t directed to me but I have been doing this trading for years and I used to hold for months and months and now I am 90% of the time a daytrader of only a handful of stocks 3-4 times a day.
Times have changed.
News travels via internet to all at speeds not thought of 10 years ago.
The name of the game is survival and profits.
The HFT TradeBots make up at least 70% of the volume on the exchanges (and probably 100% of the dark pools).
They could care less about the retail investor or the markets except to flip baskets and make money.
The SEC doesn’t care otherwise they would regulate this crap.
The NYSE doesn’t care otherwise they would not lease server space to these tradebots (and make $$ off them at the same time.)
Buy and hold is dead as evidenced by this last decade and to me it is sad but I need to deal in reality.
I’m sure in the next ten years the TradeBots via HFT will be faster and very uncontrollable.
And don’t forget, the Government doesn’t care about the retail investor as they pump equities along with lax regulation.
I’ve been buying and holding certain stocks for almost ten years now.

Let me tell you about Sharks. I worked on an IPO with a high-tech company, the CEO, Harvard grad Ph.D, a dork, couldn’t read a person even if you handed him a complete background check. The bankers figured out he had a business IQ of 75 after one conversation. They doubled the strike price, doubled the amount of shares, and made the employees sign a lock-up agreement. I told the CEO that the bankers are Sharks, don’t trust them, they will ruin the IPO. But did he listen? Of course not. Result? They pumped up the company, the share price doubled, then they dumped when it peaked. Busted IPO, the company never recovered. They made hundreds of millions on top of the IPO fee. And by the way, this is totally legal.
Moral of story, you can’t beat the Sharks, and you will never be one but at least try to swim along with them…

My Dad made a decent living working for himself, and his idea of a pension plan was to buy stock. All during his 30’s and 40’s he put his savings into the stock market, oils, banks, beer and insurance companies, all blue chip dividend paying stocks.
This was in the day when you actually had paper stock certificates.
He kept these stocks for decades, reinvesting the dividends, accumulating more certificates when they split, until he retired at the age of 70. The dividend stream became his retirement income.
He had a comfortable retirement, travelling extensively with my Mom, helping out with the grandkid’s education, with lots left over at the end of the year, and when he died he had a nice little nest egg to leave to his family.
He was your classic retail investor, and the stock market worked as it was supposed to for him. It was a place where someone could invest in a company and hopefully share in the growth and profits of that company.
When you contrast this kind of investing with the scenario described by “theedge” above, with bots and HFT’s, you start to wonder what the whole point of the stock market is these days.
