The New Economy

Those of you who are not punk kids and were trading during the dot com bubble should be very familiar with the term “new economy.” Ten years removed from the greatest bubble of all-time, which led to a 75% reduction in the nasdaq, here we are in another bubble. This time the bubble is found, yet again, in technology.

AMZN, NFLX, RVBD, CAVM, FFIV, CRM, OPEN etc. are in fatalistic bubbles. However, they also are saddled with large short positions, which serves as tinder for their respective share prices. I do not get in the way of runaway trains. If I was to explore betting against these names, I’d go with LEAPS, out of the money puts. Allocate a few g’s across a basket and just walk away. Back in the old days, I remember a good friend of mine had a monster winner: EXTR. Back then, EXTR went up everyday, like NFLX, defying all laws of gravity. The stock went up and split, then went up again. He had millions of dollars of gains in EXTR and never sold a share. He thought it would go up forever, since it was so hot for so long. The pitch was perfect and there was nothing that could derail EXTR, until the wheels fell off.

Right now the market wants to go up. There is a lot of hot money chasing a few names, so I seriously doubt we are going to see any significant sell off, barring some news.

Personally, I’ve given up on trying to time the top and will remain long biased until we overheat or breakdown. I like stupid stocks, like CHGS, HEAT and FUQI, let’s not forget MWW.

The point of this post: take profits when you can and never stand in front of runaway trains.

You know, i am looking forward to thanksgiving and seeing the parents. Also looking forward to seeing the 12 point buck my moms been keeping as a pet, the dozen or so of the 10s and 8s are nice too, but i guess living in the hill country of texas has its benifits. You dont have to lock doors at night, no neighbors for hundreds of yards, and its peaceful. God bless america!

I have a couple of those hanging around the woods (I live on 3 acres) on my property along with some fox (foxes?).
Throw in a black bear or two and it’s a zoo.
A couple of months ago a bear took my entire grill (including the propane tank) and turned it over in an attempt to get that nights dinner crumbs on the grates.
As the area has been built up the animals keep moving into the remaining woods.

A friend was sitting in his hot tub and heard some commotion in the back yard. He got out and walked around to see what was going on and found a black bear and 3 cubs laying waste to his bird feeder. They saw him and mama chased her cubs up a tree then proceeded to get ornery with my friend when he tried to scare them off. He retreated into his house at a good rate of speed. Just a couple weeks ago a guy sitting up a tree in his bow stand near here was mauled by a black who spotted him and came up to see what was for lunch.
There’s a lesson from the animals there if you think about it. They adapt to changing conditions. They are resourceful on seeking new methods of finding things to eat./make a living and they never stop learning new things. Very much the same as most of us will have to do in the coming years.
