About The PPT

Chess did a quick video about The PPT. Very useful for those of you who are trying to understand it better.

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1PEL3PrxW0&feature=player_embedded 616 500]

As an aside, it’s interesting to note that the highest closing hybrid, during this rally, was 3.09, on 9/3/2010 (previous Hybrid highs easily eclipsed 3.20 on many occasions). The very next day, the market sold off, sending the Overall Hybrid all the way down to 2.39, representing THE LARGEST HYBRID DECLINE EVER (-23.11%). Why am I writing with BIG STUPID LETTERS? I don’t know. However, I do know this rally has been very suspect, almost fish-like in its unending nirvana. To be fair, I changed the OVERBOUGHT cycle, just prior to this rally, lowering the bar to 2.95 from 3.10. Under the previous rules, The PPT has nailed this rally down to the last tick of TNA. I read it wrong and paid the price.

In recent weeks, a compromise was made, whereby the OVERBOUGHT range is still 2.95, but it must accomplish that score with 75% or more of large cap stocks ranked “buy” or higher, in order to be considered OVERBOUGHT.

In other words, The PPT won, even though I lost. How apropos.

Now that I think about it,
how can you lower the bar on one end (overbought)
and keep the same condition for the other end (oversold).
I haven’t seen an oversold score in weeks.

It was a matter of optimising the ob range, which is always hard to time in bull markets. The overall point: the score has been very tame considering this run. And secondly,
I should have taken notice to the huge drop in hybrid, which essentially serves as an os signal.

not trying to be a dick here…

the right-hand column is full of selections that allow you to evaluate the effectiveness of a given screen that utilizes the proprietary algorithms of the PPT. the power this brings is being able to gauge the accuracy of the PPT from its past OB/OS calls.

There is no such thing as a holy grail. Mean reversion works great in range-bound choppy markets but will get you killed in a strong trend.

Why did you choose Chillis instead of Applebees? I think Applebees would have been more insulting. Your slipping 😉

    Ctp

I see how you can say that, only knowing one aspect to the system. If you threw away the mean reversion aspect to the system, which i have proven over and over to be accurate, the tools itself are well worth the small expense.

It is a lot more than what you think.

curve-fitting and survivor bias are certainly something to take into consideration when attempting to predict stock movements by reflecting on historical data. however, it seems like Monsieur Fly has put together a pretty tight little system that looks to be trustworthy with regards to such endeavors.

using a well-defined stop coupled with an appropriate position size never hurt either

From where I sit, picking the market is about 1/2 mathematical insight and 1/2″ intuition and gut feeling about a company or stock. I would think that in this day and age of robotradeing and Ben Bombs, gut would half to be given a little more weight in decision making. The old math rules adhered to in days gone by are unbalanced by all the malarkey and games being perpetrated by the Fed and the likes of GS……may they all burn……..

I’ve been watching this little company for a while and it appears they have big ideas on where they want to go. Seems well positioned to rise to the top of it’s field with a good marketing plan but I don’t know anything about their management. MSLP.OB

On another note………..Anyone been following the crap being uncovered regarding MERS ? The second shoe is about to drop IMHO. If the fed government (congress) intervenes again and bails out the big banks again by simply wiping the transgressions under the rug, there will be riots in the streets if people get wind of it. The mortgage mess is far from over.
