Look at DTO last time when oil was at this level it was in the 70s. I think a lot of people playing energy to the downside .

i agree with the UNG trade – just wish there was a better place to play the natural gas bottom. I like SWN and FST. Highly leveraged on gas and run with the low costs.
Have you looked at FCG? It’s a thinly traded ETF of NG producers. On average, it’s gains have been better and losses shallower than UNG in the past two years.

As I said yesterday the market will continue its chopfest. Continue it did. As I said yesterday, GS’s surprise should not really move the stock much to the upside. And so it happened. I say today – the chopfest will continue and the risk is more to the downside. I bought SPY Aug 90 Puts for 2.61 right into the close. Got a good price so could not resist. Just a short term play over the course of this week and early next week. Will sell it as soon as I achieve my profit objectives.

Timeframes are relative. If you are talking about a 24 hr timeframe, this was indeed pathetic timing. But this week should see lot of choppiness – wait till the weekend and see what happens. I maybe early on my trade. But that is why I buy options at least one to two months out and sometimes I buy leap options.
Consensus I’ve seen indicates that 911 +-2 is the line in the sand for either a breakout or turnaround. Things seem nutty out there. On on hand, technical conditions for a drop on S&P with it looking overbought – on the other hand bullish signals on commodities and possibly drop in the dollar could turn that around.
Chop is the only given. I’m staging into a short position, but planning on ejecting if 914 is breached.
INTC seems to have kicked the shit out of estimates. Revs and earnings both well above estimate. Fuck you bears, you are indeed dead.
Check out SMH after hours. Options expiration this week. All adds up to a big fuck you bears, indeud. Unless I am wrong, which would make me very sad.

Technical Analysis story about INTC, SMH
This is a note to refresh levels noted from the technical preview piece from July 13th. Support is currently at $17.98, $17.71. Resistance levels to watch as potential upside objectives are at $18.26, $18.59, $18.91, $19.23, $19.56, $19.88, $20.22. The Semiconductor Hldrs Trust (SMH) is also moving on the positive earnings reaction as Intel is a 23.3% weight in the ETF. Resistance levels to watch as potential upside objectives are at $22.95, $23.30, $23.72, $24.15, $24.66. This is a range breakout for the SMH, with the $22.30 area prior major resistance, now support.

I previously said the equipment makers would be good buys but alas I am a daytrader.
One small problem with SMH that I see (where it could underperform some of the individual components) is that TXN makes up a good % of the SMH (along with AMAT and INTC) and I believe INTC may be providing some competition with TXN after the buyout of Wind River.
I am a bit curious how DELL says business isn’t all that good but INTC says it’s all good. Perhaps it has better margins on that Atom chip with those NetBooks.
