What is the Pilot Home Appliance Replacement Program? Last week, China’s State Council announced it was allocating
$293 million in subsidies for consumers in major cities who replaced TV sets, PCs, refrigerators, washing machines, and
air-conditioners (versus the earlier Household Appliance Subsidy Scheme that focused on 3rd and 4th tier cities in rural areas). Buyers will receive subsidies worth 10% of the new products (versus earlier 13% for farmers).
Sentiment versus real impact? – 1) We see this as only short-term positive that will last less than 3 months.
*Since it is a pilot program, it might be expanded to whole of China, which would be a long-term positive catalyst; 2) Given $293 million will be allocated to five types of appliances, we estimate a maximum of 3mn LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs will sold through the pilot program, or less than 3% of global TV panel consumption.
Which producers will benefit? –
Among global TFT-LCD (thin film transistor liquid crystal display) panel vendors, CMO would benefit most given 25-30%
of sales exposure to China, followed by AUO with 15-20% of sales exposure. … AUO should gain market share from its current 19% level as the incentive program has been shifted to major cities from 3rd and 4th tier cities. Reits Buy, $13 target (raised from $10??)

I’ve been trading Doll Cad like a demon. It trades beautifully off an envelope on the hourly chart/ 41 periods with a 1.5% to mid point top and bottom.
I’ve been trading it on the short side, but buy back near the bottom of the envelope and then short it at the top. It’s a thing of beauty.

FUNDAMENTALLY SPEAKING: I think the CAD$ took a hit because of Flaherty’s announcement yesterday that the 09 deficit would be ‘significantly larger than the January budget projected.
It’s probably going to go sideways until the June announcement.
