I have gone through each question in turn, laying out the results and then our brief thoughts on what these may mean.
The most interesting things I took out are as follows:
Firstly, the level of consensus behind credit being cheap to equities is scary; is this because it is mind-bendingly obvious, or because we are all missing something?
Secondly, very, very few people are worried about inflation or deflation as a key concern in 2009. Are we (the market) setting ourselves up for a shock in H2?
Thirdly, very few people would invest in government paper if given $100 now. Suggests strongly that the paucity of yield is starting to act as a real disincentive.
The last two are pretty interesting.
The market consensus is that we will have a pretty beingn inflation/deflation setting for the year, yet very few people are prepared to invest in bond markets if they had 100 dollars.

I wrote the other day that Moody’s had downgraded nearly 1900 trances of nuclear waste (oops, they were AAA when issued but NOW they are nuclear waste). Not to be upstaged, S&P last night downgraded 3307 (yep three thousand three hundred and seven) CDO tranches. Many to D. As in default.
This is the problem with the good bank/bad bank issue.
You just never know when this garbage will be downgraded. A lot.
And it is why the bad bank will likely never be formed–at least not the way it is being talked about at present.
Risks, in credit, despite calls to the contrary, remain as high as ever.

A hedge fund, which in 2006 had 200 billion in the fund, all invested in the market less 5% in cash.
This same hedge fund in 2008, reduced in value to 140 billion with a 30% cash position from sales at losses but wanting more cash.
but this cash, is from a 60 billion dollar loss but yet is an increase in the funds “cash position” of an increase of 25%…..but reality is it is a loss for the fund.
the “cash on the sidelines” is another blatant attempt by the asshats at CNBC to try to get the viewers to “believe” there is a magical pot of cash somewhere out there waiting to pounce….. total CNBC fuckery at it’s best……..
