And now, I see spreads in financial paper blowing out again this afternoon.
I am NOT advocating taking credit risk, although, I suppose, if one has a 5 year horizon, then it could make sense. But we all have to mark our bonds every day.
Some samples of spreads are:
* American Express (AXP) 9 year paper +773
* CIT Group (CIT) 3 year paper +3000
* General Electric (GE) 5 year paper +435
* Bank of America (BAC) 5 year paper +400
* JPMorgan (JPM) 10 year paper +351
* T long bonds +600.
So, perhaps the thaw didn’t last very long.
These are not economic levels.
