I’m hearing a new JPMorgan (JPM) preferred deal is being shopped around. No price talk yet, but I would gather in the 8 1/2% vicinity, given the warm reception to the Wells Fargo (WFC) 8 5/8% yesterday.
But I still see spreads widening every single day, a trend I expect to continue and then accelerate.
My firm remains cautious, very cautious, towards credit.
The window has shut on many regional banks and other financials like Washington Mutual (WM) and AIG (AIG), and I don’t think it will be long until it closes completely.
And then, the stock market may finally wake up to reality.
The 3 day charts are fascinating. Starting at 1:00 on Monday, all the stuff that had been working since July 15 peaked (banks, brokers, homebuilders, retail). Those have been sold aggressively, starting around 1:00. All the charts look identical.
Also starting at 1:00 on Monday, they started buying alot of the stuff that had been sold aggressively since July 15. CHK, APA, POT, MOS, etc. These charts are in strong uptrends beginning at 1:00 on Monday and look essentially identical.
