NOTE: Moody’s disclosure that credit ratings were inaccurate due to some “coding error” is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. MCO is a short, no doubt.

Regarding oil, I’m wondering what’s going to give in China.
As I understand it (and I’m relying totally on other sources here), China’s government sets the price at which the integrated Chinese oils can sell gasoline.
Last I read, the government gasoline price level wasn’t unreasonably low versus the price of oil, but it would be unreasonably low now if it hasn’t gone up.
Assuming that the above is still accurate (if it ever was), there will be a lot of pressure building on the oil companies. Either they bleed a lot of cash that they would otherwise be using to seek out new supplies to match growing demand, or the government raises gasoline prices substantially and creates a lot of grumbling at a time when China is trying to pretty itself up for the Olympics.
Anyone read anything about how China and India are being affected by oil prices?

My wife’s uncle has a great situation.
He has a huge chicken house for raising laying hens. They come in on a truck as “peeps” and stay in his chicken house until they are old enough to start laying, at which point the hens are loaded back onto trucks for transport to the egg farm.
Last I talked to him about how the business works, he told me that he doesn’t pay for the feed. If that still holds, his input prices haven’t gone up much. What has gone up is the value of all the chicken crap he collects. He composts it and uses it on his fields to fertilize his corn crops.
Oh, and he got a big check from the state for promising to sell the farmland only to another farmer. He’ll probably sell it to Amish farmers.
Another reason to take your Skiffles with every meal!

This article fails to mention the technology that is being created to find and retrieve the oil as well.
Crude, yeah peak oil is true, but everyone on wallstreet knows it… What they do not know is how long it will last, and thus fear and speculation drives up price like the peaks tommorrow. oil companies got sort of a ogopoly, but I don’t blame them, If I had a source of income that I had to ship away to sell when oil prices climb, hell, I’d sit on it and demand top dollar for it too.
I don’t think oil shortage is as bad, and in my opinion, the demand of oil will not be enough to compensate at much higher prices. There’s some serious fundimental resistance somewhere between $135 and $140, because refineries can’t buy it at those prices the only way it could go up past that, is if they didn’t give a shit about refineries, and launched prices to apeal to only the elite. This could happen if every oil company “went on strike” and refused to supply people with oil. Oil would then go up to Fly’s target of $400 “designer oil” or more and then “scabs” would start providing and crash goes the oil anyways.
Meanwhile there’s the largest find in Brazil in over 30 years, and the Bakken is estimated at billions of barrels compared to a previous estimate of under a hundred million (in ’95).
oil in 10 years, I’d like to think there’s a solution involving algee, they’ve been able to do it, just not effeciently in mass quantitites.. if not it will go higher until it doesn’t exist.
