In the Catskills, state and local officials had, by Monday afternoon, carried out 191 rescues since the storm began, often plucking people from cars or homes as water rose. State officials confirmed six people had died in connection with the storm: five drowned and one was electrocuted.

My good friend and iBC partner, Cronkite, is missing following Hurricane Irene. He lives up in the Catskills region, which is underwater, following the storm. I’ve tried reaching out to him, but have been unlucky thus far.

My thoughts are with him and his wife and look forward to his speedy return.

After reaching record levels and effectively breaching the walls of Gilboa Dam, the NYC environmental protection are reporting that water levels are receding and no structural damage to the dam has been recorded.

All roads are cut off and bridges are collapsed. They have no power and are in need of provisions.

UPDATE: They are using cellphones for flashlights and all families are gathered around the fireplace, in one room, in order to stay warm. They are without water and food.
