      Yabollox,

For me we are not overpopulated, but the framework of our lives globally does present challenges.
His points are becoming more relevant as time passes.

I agree. The optimal population for this planet is much lower. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, particularly with the global population at over 8 billion and growing by an insane amount each day/month/year, not everyone should be permitted to procreate.

How can humans deem there are too many deer, but never too many humans?

Of course, no mentally healthy person wishes they had not been born, despite the intellectual realization of overpopulation.

If some degree of physical isolation is preserved, I don’t think humans are in danger of extinction, short of worldwide calmity that may not be survivable anyway.

People are capable and motivated to have sex and reproduce under the most dire circumstances. I see it as a basic expression of human spirit and optimism.

It astounds me to see pregnant women and babies in the situations some people are living in. Never underestimate morning wood!

If I were homeless, starving or in deep poverty, the absolute last thing on my mind would be sex.

Obviously, the rest of the world does not share my view. Every day in the city, you can see children with parents, and any rational intelligent person would conclude “what the hell happened there?”

At least here in the USA, a mentally unhealty environment for childeren is toxic for the future. A healthy family unit or good single parenting is crucial to the future.

I know a truly psycho, mental piece of work woman, who had a baby. I feel sorry for the kid, and would not be surprised if one day he grows up and goes on a violent rampage.
With a mother like that, he is doomed.

Because no human has the right to establish population limits. It is beyond the authority of any man to prevent another human life from occurring. To do such a thing would be the height of hypocrisy. If you really feel there are too many people, why do you not really help the problem and toss yourself from a bridge?

so keep breeding like vermin .. then you surely don’t mind social handouts, social welfare programs, freebies for society’s dysfunctional, criminality, higher taxes to pay for all these programs

I’m sure you have no problem paying taxes to support, for example, that LA Mom who already had 6 kids before having octuplets, all on welfare

Don’t you get it Juice? Octomom was able to act like that BECAUSE of social welfare programs. We incentivize irresponsibility by providing a safety net for poor decisions.

When will liberals accept that the only way to regulate human behavior is for the individual to be responsible for their actions?!

          Sheesh.

so leave it up to the individual to be self-responsible? then we may as well have no laws at all

I assume you think it is self-responsible for those governing and the law makers, those responsible to create a safe, productive & progressive society, to green light teen-age pregnancies, drug-addicted/alcoholic pregnancies, 5-15 kids per family, genetic disorder pregnancies, etc .

then all these ill-equiped kids & parents can’t support themselves & either they get govy handouts or they resort to crime to survive .. vicious cycle

Wilmer gets it. Government support in the face of irresponsible decision making and behavior encourages the same.

I am arguing for my own extinction?

if you say so … apparently, you get more dimwitted by the minute

conversing with you is reminiscent of speaking with my father .. who is well into alzheimers

Sorry to hear that about your father, although I guess he is lucky that you haven’t began culling the population by starting with him.

G-d, what bullshit. Generally, people have fewer kids as they rise out of poverty. Better food, medicine, education, bring about better economies. Families don’t need 15 kids to keep up the subsistence farm. Religious fanaticism adds to the grief as does keeping women as chattel.

If you guys are going to argue, at least argue intelligently.

lol… imprisoned for calling B.S. I love it. I love arguing about this stuff, but sometimes I see the same arguments posed over and over, especially about economic development and poverty.

One of my all time pissers, was an article about an African country (I can’t recall which one right now.) that the World Bank “said” they should import their grains rather than try to subsidize their internal production, since well, subsidies are evil and “free trade” is always great. Basically, the country couldn’t feed itself, and had huge issues with hunger. Hungry people — not much further economic development. So the country basically gives the world bank the finger, and starts a very, very modest program of distributing small packages of fertilizer at a cost of a couple of bucks per farmer.

“Amazingly”, the farmers output shoots up within a year, and in a couple of years they can feed themselves and have surpluses to sell. Land that previously had been deemed marginal and could not support agriculture, was being pressed into service.

Sometimes ideology is just “that”, and not very useful in solving real problems on the ground. Tommes [sic] of examples out there.
