I mean really. We have black holes that can swallow entire galaxies…what anthropomorphism must we have to believe that our tiny little existence means so much? That our combustion engines have more influence over temperature than the Sun itself?
Good post Cronk. Couple this with the recent realization of the solar minimum, and we have some real evidence that what we do here really doesn’t mean crap. That’s not to say that we should destroy our planet. What it means is that our planet and universe can destroy us a lot faster than we can destroy it.
No doubt the human species can screw up the immediate environment for us and other current forms of life here. But, it’s a good bet the Earth will keep chugging along long after the human infestation has died off.
Consider the fundamental efficiency and focus of non-human life. Animals do not appear to work themselves into a lather about self-absorbed non essential B.S. like humans do.
Eventually someone will try to get a tax or a financial derivative on bodily functions. We may be told to justify our existence by paying a carbon offset tax on what we exhale.
