I once recall recording music off the radio and video taping movies from the tv. Is downloading any different ?

In the good old days there was a hidden “tax” (I can’t recall what it was called) on the sale of cassette tapes, and I believe video tapes also that went to the royalty pot to be distributed to the artist and studios. Of course that would make too much sense to do the same to broadband connections.
Everything has a tax aye, ay, aiy, ? …as they say in Canada.
