Growing up in Miami we would grab the coconuts that fell and smash them for the meat and liquid. They were all over the place (before a yellow blight disease killed a bunch).
In fact when I was a tyke I would play golf at Key Biscayne GC (Crandon Beach) and the coconuts would be floating into the mangrove swamps off the Bay. We would stuff our golf bags with them.
