If we know the markets will move lower eventually in short term, why regret holding vxx. Im selling my longs in this melt up, and then release my vxx as the market tanks. I do not feel confortable not being hedged in this market. Am i right or wrong?

If you’ve positioned VXX as your hedge, it is probably not your best vehicle to hedge with, imo. Even though it correlates negatively to the S&P 500, the standard deviation of VXX has been more than 3x that of the S&P 500 over the past 12 months. That’s a lot of volatility. You will be better off, in my opinion, by hedging your long stock positions with SH or BRPIX.
If you don’t want to sell your stocks right now, if I were you, I’d hedge by going market neutral and take the rest of the summer off. This market is a range bound, meat grinding SOB. It will frustrate traders and eat up their capital. Go have fun. Life is short. The market will make it’s major move as we get closer to the Fall (no pun intended).
I wouldn’t hedge with it.
I agree with Alpha’s view 100%…this market might act like it is going somewhere, but it will then just find a reason to reverse itself….until September rolls around.

Personally I don’t see the point in hedging. If am too long for the market conditions and/or my risk profile, I simply close enough positions until I am at the right level.
Cash and your stops are the only hedge I need.
you hedge to stop the bleeding..but if your cost avg.down to get into a full position…once you have that position hedging is a lot more costly…and would need to be done in full force with the right hedge position to stop the bleeding …no averaging in there…

I guess the reason I keep a hedge with vxx is because we seem to keep moving lower. We go up but the low’s keep getting lower. I have made more this year off a vxx than probably any other stock. I’m still learning.

While UPS is doing better, the railroads, I’m not sure whats up with some of the numbers, but carloads for railroads are up, albeit against shit numbers from this time last year. Norfolk Southern has pulled all but 150 locomotives out of storage (down from 900+) and is leasing about 80 which just showed up…CSX got a bonus met coal run in their numbers as China bought some US stuff in Jan/Feb to scare the Aussies on pricing. Intermodal shipments again are higher by 30%, again versus last year…somethings moving. By Sept we should have a good idea if its going to be a blue XMAS for retailers…
