What do the numbers stand for? Below a certain number is a buy signal, and above another one is a sell signal?

The chart represents ALL instances when the overall Hybrid reading (4,000+ stocks) was above 3.00 and 2.30. Generally, those two points represent precise overbought/sold ranges.

          Pretty sick, eh?

Where is 2008? What were the readings then?

I don’t want to be a tool but *any* oversold dip after 2009 low was a buy, PPT or not. Any other measure of oversold like going outside bollinger, breaching key trendlines, VIX etc. would have done equally well. The key is the dip buying after “capitulation” mentality so deeply embedded into every investment manager’s psyche that this strategy will work 9/10 times. Then you have cases like 2008 where the PPT could have hit 0 and we’d still keep going lower.

Point is, there is no perfect indicator. OK, I’m done. Back to the silliness.

Sam: The Fly’s “The PPT” is an absolute no-brainer.
Tremendous value considering you’re not only getting God’s picks, His investment tools and His ideas, but the stock screener, including the oversold/overbought indicators (which singles out individual stocks) is just priceless.

Interesting. Sounds sort of like VectorVest’s system in real time, but more clear cut.

BTW, did you have a chance to demo the hedging app I e-mailed you about? I ask because the demo password is about to change. Incidentally, we’re in the process of developing a scaled down version of it as an iPhone app, so hipsters can hedge their portfolios too.

    So what?

the other high readings came after an uptrend – this one is at a bottom

we might go down a bit or sideways a few days but that reading is only a hint at how fierce this rally is going to be

            Thanks folks

There was obviously some not insigificant risk, but if you look at where the VIX was at when i shorted, relative to its history, it seemed pretty safe. We would have had to launch directly into a repeat of the financial crisis collapse for it to keep going up. We had already “tied” every other financial crisis in history, from a VIX level point of view.

            Down seemed the likely course…

How often is the PPT refreshed for individual stocks: constantly or only overnight?

I made a swap today (TM for BP) today based on their PPT readings. BP was already up 6% at that point though and I wondered if the BUY reading was (accurately) predicting that 6% jump from the night before, or if it had already accounted for that 6% and still rated a buy?

Right under the “Hybrid Score” along the left of the page of that stock, just click on “Historical Scores.”
There are 16 pages worth of data and it even tells you when the stock hit “oversold” or “overbought” on the hybrid score. It also gives you the closing price with the corresponding hybrid score, technical score and fundamental score for each day. Truly awesome weapon.

      Don’t be an idiot.

The PPT just came off the most oversold reading in its history. The market had a ridiculous meltup day almost 4%+ from the overnight lows.

In this case, i wouldn’t take the PPT overbought score to mean “go the fuck short”, but you might interpret it as “be fucking careful” or “don’t go long just now.”

It’s ok to use your brain when interpreting these things, or borrow someone elses for the task.

An “exceptional situation” requires “exceptional consideration.”

      Great feedback, otherwise….

The PPT is questionable despite the great calls on this site. Let’s look at the PPT and the Fly’s calls over the last couple of months and see where it stands – much like an audit of the FED – lol.

The Fly will ban me momentarily while shouting about 30% YTD gains, however, those of us who ask for more “proof” before committing piker deposits to iBC should not be belittled. I have followed this site for almost a year and will admit that I am intrigued with the trading circle – JakeGint, despite his delusional political views, is spot on with his long term calls and RC, who in my opinion is the iBC’s best blogger, is one of the most consistently progressive thinkers posting. That all being said, I know that there have been many bad and uninformative calls made by many contributors as well and would like to see a little more understanding to the committed doubters.

In short, I – as a piker – would like to experience a month long test run of the PPT in a volatile market before committing to it for a year. Just a thought . . . .

            Oh Good Doctor –

I was trying to compliment you and your sometimes questionable following. I completely agree with you in that you are in no way required to prove anything to me. I check this site solely because of my interest and I take my time to sometimes point out to you how you can, in my humble opinion, improve upon it – be it bad coding or marketing.

As far as your salesmanship, you are selling commentary and stock picks so don’t try and act detached from your commentary and posted picks when its convenient. I get the PPT is an investment tool, and like I said, I am intrigued by it. My point to you is that you shouldn’t act so smug towards people who are interested in delving into your product but are hesitant because of the sometimes questionable marketing and commentary.

Again, I applaud you for a very unique blog and wish you would be a little more open to constructive criticism – after all, if the iBC was such an afterthought to you, you wouldn’t invest the time would you? I posted this not for a personal attack but rather to try and contribute to the overall blog. That being said, I know full well that you could give a shit about my opinion.

BoBo – despite you being a clown, you get my point on Jake . . .

To all of the Pikers (Skeptical and Otherwise):
Look, I’ve traded for a long time. I’ve known a lot of good “amateur” traders. I’ve known a lot of very good “amateur” investors. Guys that retired long before 47 1/2. I’ve always bought the best tools I could afford for my level of trading. I started trading while in college. I’ve survived every conceivable type of market since 1984. I’ve built systems with some of these traders. I’ve built up and blown up a number of trading accounts. I’ve constantly improved my skills, but nothing has compared to first finding iBankCoin (thanks to an exit survey at briefing.com), and now the PPT.

Today I was up over 4%. I’m up over 26% YTD. And best of all I’m now 50% cash and ready for whatever comes next. Yes, I still make mistakes. What’s new. I was reviewing this years trades today and I was amazed at the small number that were losers. Last year I was up over 82%. This year, even though the markets are much, much more difficult to trade, there’s no drama at Yogi’s desk, just banking coin.

So pikers, first figure out what you want from the markets. You will get it. Quit busting on the PPT. You bother me.

the problem today is not the lack of information but it overabundance. The fly’s PPT is an investment/trading tool. it helps you sift through financial information. lots of it. you need to do your homework. but also there’s a PPT community to cut to the chase. some have their own area of expertise. some of the members are real trader/investor ace with better knowledge of the market and trading experience then i’ll ever have. so to me, having access to them that’s a real gift. you get to appreciate that. hopefully that quality stay. working out the mathematics isn’t as hard as getting a quality community. IMHO, that’s the hardest.

people share trade ideas, actions. read comments. you do your own research then choose to follow or not. or you have a trade idea, first do your research, share and watch comments then act.

the hybrid score.. that’s all great and shit… but it’s only ONE financial indicator. a general broad good indicator… obviously, you can’t base all your investments/trades on that alone. anyway, investment isn’t and on/off switch. there’s a lot more to the ppt then the hybrid score.

    join. win.

Understand that the PPT is linked to some sort of plutonium rich time machine.

Thanks Alphadawgg. I’m all about the time machine – just questioning the length of the ride. In all seriousness, I’m not trying to be an ass; if I seriously doubted the ROI I wouldn’t be lurking. My apologies for getting some of the cheerleaders’ panties in a wad . . .

Food for thought… Currently there is a rather tight correlation to market action prior to the 2008 crash.

I doubt if I’ve heard that phrase before. But an engineer, I’ll say that was well done.

    Shocking headline for the day:

“Cops: N.J. Mom Blows .39 With 3 Kids In Car”

When I first scanned the headline I did not see the ‘.’ indicating this was a breathalyzer test. First thing that popped into my dirty mind was the scene from Clerks – “37 dicks? In a row????”

You have to give it to the Professor. Like Madoff, it’s only a solvency issue once people start wanting their money back.

      The game is rigged!

Lunar cycles also indicate a massive peak in the market sometime the second half of this year, followed by a precipitous, gargantuan descent.

        Hi Alphadawgg –

Any place I can go to learn more about lunar cycles and this particular call (massive peak, gargantuan descent)? I am googling said topic at this moment, but being pointed in the right direction is always appreciated.

FLY, where do you get these pictures? The one that is currently on the home page (the pipe-smoking, be-suited, guy watching his 1950s wife churn butter) is a particular favorite.

Fly, on the App update, if I go to Settings / Performance, and reshuffle the order of the blogs, then close and restart the app (as it says), my settings still don’t save. Also turning off the thumbnails doesn’t work either.
