I sold out of my Equinix, Inc. [[EQIX]] position this morning, further solidifying my blade into Jim Cramer’s ribs, as he was very bearish on the name and I was not. The proceeds go directly to cash, nothing more. Some of you are probably wondering about my mental “well being,” especially since I am so volatile, with regards to my opinions. Let me assure you, once and for all, I am of sound body and mind. However, I must admit, I am afraid to sell this market short, which is why I am taking the pussy way out of stocks, through treasuries and more recently [[VXX]] . Let it be known, I do not like this market, not one bit. But I am not bold enough to take down large short positions (yet), due to the veracity of the permabull trading robots at Goldman.
Without a doubt, The PPT has and is pointing to extreme overbought conditions. But, like in all bull markets, upward momentum is contagious, especially when our 401k money is being managed by chimpanzees with IQ’s less than imprisoned giraffe’s.

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Commercial real estate owners are walking away from properties that have become untenable as investments, just as homeowners have walked away from houses they can no longer afford to pay off or sell.
The latest commercial property owner to do this is Vornado Realty Trust (VNO), the $13 billion real estate investment trust, which warned last week that it would walk away from two loans totaling $235 million.
Commercial mortgages are in the throes of a painful correction. Delinquency rates are up, property values are nearly 40% off from their peak valuations, occupancy rates and rents are down. Further, as loans mature, many find it difficult to obtain fresh capital, and so they seek extensions on current loans.
However, of late, some commercial property owners find that it makes more economic sense for them to stop making payments and servicing the debt, and walk away from a property. Since most of these commercial loans are non-recourse, there is no direct obligation or claim on the owners’ assets.

Fly what makes you think that TLT will run? Investors are going to start requiring higher yields. Retail mom and pop are already scared. I have a friend at chase and he says that older folks are coming in droves to buy short maturity CD’s. Thats where money is going to go in FDIC insured products. Especially if the US rating drops.
I have been taking the other side of the trade and buying TBT in small chunks. Looking for a sell off in treasuries like last summer
I see the logic and I sort of share the outlook that this most recent rally is a bit gutless and weak. But instead of treasuries I’m casting a low-beta wont-get-killed-if-the-market-falls vote behind T, VZ, LLY, tobacco and so forth. Big boring low beta high yield blue chip dividend aristocrats.
If the market rallies I’ll make some coin along with it. If it tanks these won’t tank remotely as bad as everything else may in fact see a general lift over the next 12 months due to their yields being far better than bonds of really any kind, except crappy junk bonds with high expected credit losses. Remember, this is the bond market that sold BBI like 400 million in bonds at like 7% or something just ‘tarded. Bond bubble? I don’t know, but the downside in bond markets of all kinds sure seems to exceed the upside over an intermediate or long term window…
Historically the S&P has NEVER been at this bizzare of a ratio of dividends+buybacks/10year treasury yield. At least since 1962 it hasn’t.
And its quite rare for an untroubled blue chip like T or LLY (by untroubled I mean they are at basically zero risk of going broke) to trade at yields higher than the 10 year, much less 50% or more higher.
For more reason than one I think this is a time for boring stocks to be held

The China concern continues – March 27th is the big day for China and I see the market lightening up a bit as they decide what to do about inflation….that they caused with their stim package. Funny thing is, the top 10 projected GDP countries for 2010 ALL have passed stim packages to prop this world economy up. The top 10 GDP countries projected for 2010 are:
1. China 9.4%: $585 B Stim
2. Indonesia 5.55%: $7 B stim package
3. Singapore 5.50%: $13.6 stim package
4. Brazil 4.75%: $5 B stim package
5. Malaysia 4.50%: 10 B stim package

China will not raise rates until the 3% has been breached (currently at 2.7%). We will not have that data until April. The Chinese will be a bit in the dark at the end of the month when they make the interest rate decision. At worst, I see them increasing requirements for bank deposits.
In the mean time, the shallow market pullback in the U.S. that is based on the China scare will be shallow (as much as I want a larger pullback). This volatility allows for a good trading environment until we see the data.

There’s no way to know what a market is going to do (at least for me), but at the end of the day I think the peak of the commodity party was 2008 and we may well see a second round of commodity deflation. I have been phasing out of commodity stocks all year.
