Cobalt International Energy has filed to go public on the NYSE under the ticker “CIE.” Its expected offering amount is $1.15 billion. The company is an oil and gas exploration and development company in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico and offshore international areas. Following the offering, the company will still be controlled by its investors, who include The Carlyle Group, Riverstone Holdings, First Reserve, GS Capital Partners, and KERN Energy Partners.
Cobalt is the 13th private equity-backed company to file for an IPO this year, according to the PitchBook Platform. The filings have closely mirrored the rise in the market as there were only two before July, three in July, six in August, and now two already in September. Cobalt’s is the largest this year, surpassing ABRY Partners-backed Healthport’s $1 billion planned IPO. Cobalt is the second energy company to file for an IPO, following Yorktown Partner’s Ellora Energy. Depending on the market’s general direction and volatility, it is possible that the number of companies filling for IPO’s could double by year end.

An armless man hoping to cash his wife’s cheque was left disgusted after the bank demanded his thumbprint.
Steve Valdez, a resident of Tampa, Florida, went into a Bank of America branch in his hometown to cash the cheque on his wife’s request.
But the bank official told him that a person without an account at the bank has to give a thumbprint to cash a cheque.
Valdez, 54, uses prosthetic arms since he was born armless.
“She said, ‘Obviously you aren’t going to be able to give us a thumbprint’,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Valdez as saying.
Valdez showed the bank teller two picture identification cards, but the teller was not swayed.
She consulted the manager, who said that in order to cash the cheque Valdez could open his own account, or bring his wife. Valdez did neither and left.
Valdez said he was told the manager was following bank policy.owever, Bank of America has now apologised.
“We should have offered alternative requirements if an individual is not able to give a thumbprint,” said a spokesperson

Not too long until the fin news channels start referring to LED stocks as a sector. CREE seems to be in great position if the run does happen. I am holding some common but also a bunch of out of the money Jan 10 lotto tix.
