The Fly likes AMD in a long term way. Not in a gay way, as how most people like stocks. He figured that there’s a chance it might pop or tank after earnings released. If it does, great. If not it doesn’t matter much as he’ll be scaling in and out over time. He didn’t say it was going to go up. 20k shares at $4 is actually a pretty small position if you watch his trades. This is probably installment 1 of 5.
Besides – if you really want to get his goat, work the Flotek angle. Much richer material there…

Yeah, I hadn’t noticed that as of the time I wrote it. I was too busy reflecting on whether or not AMD had put in a hanging man to read the rest of the posts. So busy in fact that I hadn’t noticed the one on the SPY until woodshedder pointed it out on another site.
Those 150,000 do change things a bit. I must say I am curious as to why someone who intended to hold for a few weeks/months would roll the dice ahead of earnings.

I bought AMD today at 4.11, with the stop at 3.90. Looks like it will open well below that stop. Question for those more experienced then me:
Should I just take my lumps and keep the stop in place knowing it will like likely open in the 3.50s-3.60s range? Or wait some time in the day before selling? The open on these types of events sometimes is an over reaction, and it will correct a bit.
my opinion…do not sell it, it will come back sooner than you think. just keep it and add more to it. buy more at 3.50, offset the 4.11 to 3.75ish. and hold it…..sell around 4.25. you will of course have to be patient and this will take weeks, but it will come back.
I’ve been in and out of AMD for 10 years. It’ll come back in the near future.
